Anyone with 9mm load data?

Ok,
I loaded up some of my first 9mm yesterday. CCI primer, Power Pistol powder, Remington bulk 124gr JHP bullet, Midway once fired brass.

Couldn't find any recipe for that particular load. After looking at several sources and mic. measure remington umc store bought load, I seated bullet to 1.078. Power Pistol at 6.0 grains.

Paper with the Lee dies stated a 124 copper plated bullet with oal at 1.15 using Power Pistol at start load of 6.0 grains.

Alliant states a load with 125 FMJ at 6.6 grains powder and 1.15 oal.

Sierra states 125gr. JHP with power pistol oal 1.075 with 5.7 maiximum load.

I shot the 10 rounds loaded. Good cycling of gun, no noticable pressure problems showed on case. Shot through Taurus pt111 Millenium stainless barrel.

My question is: will this recipe be safe? Again Midway once fired brass, Remington bulk (not Sabre) bullets seated to 1.078, CCI primer, 6.0 Power Pistol powder.

I've never loaded for 9mm before and am under the impression that it is easy to build to much pressure fast on these loads. Just want to make sure I'm not going to be missing a hand or worse if I continue loading this recipe.

Funny about your timing.

I just got back from the range just now after shooting some PP loads. Based on Alliant's web site I loaded my 9mm at 5.6, 6.0 and 6.4gr at 1.15COL. I used a 124gr FMJ Speer bullet so I figured I was close. The gun was a Sig 228.

Here's what I found:

5.6 was fine and a decent load- no cycling problems, jams at all.
6.0 had more zip and no problems as well.
6.4 was noticably hot IMHO. No problems either.

I think I'll use 5.6-6.0 going forward.

One of my favorite bullets in 9mm. I've loaded several thousands, but not a lot with PP, it flashes more than I like. A great many of the loads were +P and it's one of the best bullets for it. An OACL of 1.122"/28.5mm is what I used in CZ pistols and 1.142" in SIGs. 1.142"/29mm is the length European powder makers like Vihta Vouri (3N37) recommend and 1.122" is close to most American factory JHP loads (except Cor-Bon!). For pistols with shorter chambers like CZ 9mms, 1.122" is short enough for their chambers when loading the Rem. 124 gr. JHP.

Sounds like you did things right. Since Remington doesn't publish load data for their components you did the right thing by cross referencing several data sources and used a start load about 10% below maximum. They should shoot just fine. The Speer #13 manual lists 6.4 grs of Power Pistol with their 124gr JHP or FMJ at an OAL of 1.120". Remington bullets are similar in shape to the Speer, with a long ogive vrs the squared shoulder of a Sierra or Hornady. If you increase your load I'd also increase the cartridge OAL to 1.12" or 1.15" as listed in the manuals (max cartridge OAL is 1.168") as short OAL's can increase the pressure of the small capaicty 9mm dramatically.

next question,
am I seating the bullet too deep? Factory Remington UMC I've been shooting in 115 JHP is seated to oal of 1.080. I seated the 241 jhp I reloaded to 1.078. Any thoughts?

O.A.L.

I load long and start shortening up until I find what feeds best. I just make sure I don't get way below what Manuals list. If you start getting shorter just make sure to adjust powder to suit. You can always build the charge back up carefully.

I try to find the factory O.A.L. for a bullet if available. Like .45 200 Gr. Gold Dots. I bought a box of factory +P and 100 bullets and loaded them to factory O.A.L. & +P velocity when trying them. My pistol shot all 125 of them with 0 malfuntions so I feel comfortable with them in this gun.
Going to do the same with 9mm 124 Gr. GS - need a box of factory,have the bullets.
