I have a Lee single stage press and have had zero issues with it. Same with their dies, scales, primer, etc... don't listen to those that claim Lee is junk - they are just upset because they paid 3x as much for their setup and get the exact same results.

I love Lee dies. I have only used Lee and Dillon dies but I liked the Lee dies better. They were so much easier to adjust and use. Infact you will see a lot of posts from Dillon owners that use Lee die on their press. All of my Lee dies have made great ammo.

Lee Classic Turret kit from Kempf's is definitely the way to go! Also, be sure to get the Pro Auto Disc powder measure (the upgrade costs about $15 or $20 I think). It's much nicer than the standard one.
 
Did you price the components individually from Kempf's or get the kit? When I ordered mine, they were by far the cheapest. The kit includes a set of dies, one safety prime, auto disc riser, ammo boxes, etc... Then add your upgrades like sm/lg safety prime and pro auto disc.
 
The difference is in the exorbitant shipping midway charges. Kempf's will ship your stuff promptly and do so by USPS, charging only actual postage, and this will end up being much, much cheaper than midwayusa.

Btw, if you want a good do it all, reasonably priced press for your purposes, get the Lee Classic Turret press with the Lee Safety Prime for large/small primers as well as the Lee Pro Auto Disk powder measure. This is a great starter press and is fast enough to provide you most all the reloading you'll need for now and long into the future. It's also a durable well made press. I wrote the beginning reloader sticky and have found this press since then. I own a Hornady LnL, but found the Lee press to be good enough I bought one and use it on my bench. If it and the Lee Classic Cast single stage had been available when I bought my first reloading equipment, I would never had needed any other reloading equipment.

kempf's charges $13.xx for shipping and midway charges $15.xx with some extras added in

im not trying to defend midway or anything i really dont care, i just dont see it being much of a deal to go through kempf when i can get more through midway to save on shipping with multiple orders (since i cant get everything i want from kempf's)
 
I started a couple of years ago with a Lyman Turret press that a friend gave - more or less the kit you are buying.

I have had a lot of fun.

Before the friend gave me the Lyman turret, I was about to buy the Hornaday Lock 'N Load Classic kit. The Hornaday struck me as really high quality stuff. The Lock 'N Load system seems like a good system - I'd like to check it out.

You won't go wrong the Lyman turret. You'll have a quality press and have and have a lot of fun.

Getting started is probably more important than which press. :)

okay I did all the math and what it breaks down to is...

if you want the 6 50 round plastic cases (I wasnt including them in my original math) then it cost around $208 from midway (shipping included) to get everything that kepf's offers. With shipping, kempf's total deal is $198.

So you save $10. If kempf's has everything else i (or you) need then that is the place to go. If they don't, might as well save on shipping and order everything from midway.
 
Ok, you went through the figure out pricing exercise and you have a list, either put out your list so folks can review and advise/suggest what you might not want to order (because they already bought that piece of junk/great tool) or place your order and get on with it. On bigger orders, midway is ok, it's when you're ordering smaller under a hundred bucks they hit ya. You're around 200, so buy from midway and get all the "extras" you can afford up front.

That should be everything that I can think of. I already have brass so that is not an issue. As for the tumbler and whatnot, I will wait to get those at a later date because I can't afford to add those in now and I don't need them right now.
 
Your list looks good. You will be happy with a quality scale and not starting with the Lee scale. The only thing I don't see is a tumbler to clean your brass. Congratulations and let us know if you need any help setting up.

You may have already ordered, but looking at your list, I would buy your powder and primers locally. The haz-mat fee will be $40 if shipped.
When you do buy your powder you should not need 4lbs. to start. It goes along way, and you may want to experiment with some other powders.
A Wilson max-gage is a good investment for a beginner. Your kit may come with a primer pocket cleaner, if not you will need one. A power trickler is nice, but not necessary to start.

But you might want to consider most as a kit from Cabela's instead of separate components from Midway.

For loading .45, the scale included in the kit is fine. The discs throw a pretty accurate charge, the charge bar is probably a waste.

PS - one more advantage to the kit is the possibility that Midway will be out of stock on one or more items, thus causing extra shipping charges. :(

Good catch X-Mark, I didn't think of that. Midway will charge you $20 hazmat on each. They drop ship the powder from Powder Valley. You can buy powder and primers from Powder valley or Graf's and save one hazmat fee and they are also cheaper than Midway. Graf's will also offer free shipping but will add 3% for a non-cash discount unless you send a check. I usually order from Graf's because I have a C&R license and get dealer pricing. It usually isn't cheaper to buy powder and primers online unless you buy in bulk. I buy primers 50,000 at a time and powder 48 pounds at a time. You can go in with some friends and split this up or you can combine powder and primers in the same order and are limited to 48 pounds for one hazmat fee.

way ahead of you guys...i should have mentioned it in my post but i was planning on buying those locally or one of the above mentioned places, i just put them on there to complete my list. also, i am going to buy the scale on ebay because they are going pretty cheap on there.

Dont need the dies for 40 and 10 mm and not real thrilled about the scale so I might sell that and get another but other than that a good deal since it was pretty much what I wanted. Going to build a bench tomorrow afternoon and I am about on my way :D
 
If you build your bench out of cheap scrap material, you can toss it without regret and build another one where you move to. You can sell or keep the other dies. I agree with your assessment on the scale. If I were you, I'd pick a slightly better one up, but only if you add any other caliber to your setup. If you don't, you'll fairly quickly settle on a load for your pistol and be using the same setting/disk setting on your powder measure for a single pistol and won't use the scale enough after that to matter. Why? Because the Pro Auto Disk isn't adjustable, other than changing the disk. IF you don't change the disk, there's not much need to measure the powder dispensing, because you haven't adjusted anything. A single check at the beginning of the run and keeping a close eye on the powder dispensing to make sure you haven't run out and you're good to go on powder.
