I'm really thinking of starting to reload!

I have a Turret--but I haven't loaded rifle rounds (yet).

IMO, the standard Turret (3-die, 4-die, doesn't matter) would be too light to do those rifle rounds. For the small difference in price, go to the Classic Cast Turret.

Id only use a single stage press, my ole rockchucker is still going after 40 odd years of use.

No room for wiggle when making precision rounds

After just returning from the gun show and seeing the ammo prices I'm glad I got into reloading!

$168 for 500 rounds of .223 ammo is outragous!

I load rifle on the Classic Turret and there is not any wiggle there either. The Classic is a very strong press made of cast iron and steel.

You can say that again. When you can load 223 for $100 per 1,000 I don't know why someone would rather buy factory than reload their own.

I use the Lee 4 hole and Pro Auto Disc as my primary handgun cartridge loader and also use it for .223 bulk ammo. Can ge finicky at times but still works well.

I'd love to have a Dillon set up but when I got into reloading I had too many other hobbies so I had to work with a limited budget.

Lee is pretty good stuff for the price.

What I did for my initial setup was to buy a Lee Loadmaster setup for .45ACP along with a Lee Anniversary kit. I bought my stuff through Midway during my birthday month so I got a little extra discount. I bought pretty much the entire setup to begin reloading.

My list:

Lee Loadmaster(.45ACP)
Lee Anniversary kit( includes all the extra tools needed for reloading)
Tumbler
Caliper
Additional Dies (.38/.357 and .380ACP)

Afterward, I discovered that I needed a couple of extra bits to be able to fully use my single stage press with the .45 setup that came with the LoadMaster. I bought a set of the Lee Shell Holders since the LM setup doesn't need or come with it in the setup and while I was ordering, I included a Bullet Puller since I know I'll have some goofs that I'll need to correct.

You might want to get a Lee Hand Press to go with all the other stuff. I use mine to size and deprime brass while I sit and watch TV. Also, the hand press might save you some wear and tear on your turret press when you size large rifle cases.

Hint: You can resize rifle brass in 2 passes to make it easier by loosening your sizing die one or two turns for the first pass. (depending on the die, you might want to remove the expander ball for the first pass)

Don't forget about the Hazmat fees when ordering powder and primers online. I've ordered from PowdervalleyInc before and like the prices and service, but for just a pound or two of powder or a 1000 primers, it's cheaper to pay a little extra at the local gun shop and avoid the shipping fees. Plus it helps keep the local shop in business.

can you load 8mm Mauser and .30-06 with the deluxe turret?

I've loaded 8mm Mauser with my Lee classic turret, no problems. (and also 7.62x54R, and 7.62x39) I don't recall if 30-06 is a longer round than 8mm Mauser but I'm pretty sure that the Lee classic turret could handle that too, iirc anything short of .50BMG.

I did it! I placed the order! It should be here by Friday the 21st. I can't wait.

Here is what I ordered:
Press- Lee Classic 4 hole turret press
Dies- Lee deluxe handgun 4-die set 45ACP
Powder measure- Lee Pro Auto Disk(with riser, and adj. charge bar)
Priming tool - Lee safety prime for large and small primers
Tumbler- FA Quick-n-ez tumber kit w/ media seperator
Scale- Lee safety scale
Others- FA 45 ammo boxes 50rnd
-FA impact bullet puller
-Lee chamfer tool
-reloading tray
-lee primer pocket cleaner
-Lee case trimmer and lock stud
-lee powder funnel
-Lee reloader SS press kit(lee manual and SS press(to have a second press on hand for really cheap))

I already have a set of calipers

I also bought Rainer Leadsafe .45 230gr RN bullets(500)

I have some collected brass and I will buy the powder and primers at the next gun show or at a local store(to avoid hazmat fees)

once I get this reloading thing down I can start loading .38 special, 9mm, and .375 mag, and maybe one day .30-06

I also want to take this oportunity to Thanks every one for all the help. I will probably be needing more soon. Ill will update once I get started!

You did a good comprehensive order. But just to save you some confusion--you don't need to trim pistol brass, so don't worry about that. (That's a generalization, but I have never heard of anyone needing to do it with new cases in the typical straight-wall rounds. In fact, your .45ACP cases will be gradually growing shorter--and unless you are load max recipes, you can reload them innumerable times: I have some 45ACP brass with the headstamp virtually worn off, and it's still working fine for light load plinking.

And, if you use a 'normal' process, in which you deprime AFTER cleaning, you can just about ignore the primer pocket cleaner for now and the chamfer tool as well. Clean the brass if not new, then put it in the press and get going.

Any questions, just ask away....
