I've been thinking about a 7.62 NATO AR, and wondered what advice anyone might have about this one. PSA is about 40 miles from my house and I have bought several rifles, uppers, and lowers from them, all well made & of good quality, but all in 5.56. I'm not interested in spending much over $1000, and this looks interesting. Thoughts?

Everything I’ve bought from PSA has been a great value.
I’ve heard that the AR10s they have are nice, so I’d say go for it.

I have an unexplained dislike for .308. I like that gun though and would look hard for one like it in 7-08 before I bought the 7.62 vanilla.

And it strikes me as odd that they are combining stainless steel and lightweight into the same product. That is defeating both purposes.

Do yourself a favor and get the 6.5 Creedmoor, shoot further, flatter and inherently more accurate ... The only downside is there is a wider selection of ammo in 308

The only issues I have seen with some of the PSA guns/kits/uppers is I have seen one (223) where the gas key in the BCG wasn't staked, resulting in it coming loose and causing malfunctions. Easy fix, if you know how to find a problem. the second is that I am not a fan of the gas blocks that attach via the small allen set screws, which I think PSA uses. The clamshell type like the ones made by Daniel Defense are much more reliable. As for the gun you are looking at, that sucker is a bit long and heavy for my tastes. I prefer a 16" barrel to keep the weight and overall length down- a real consideration if you intend to do something like fire offhand or carry it up a tree stand, and even more so if a suppressor is in your future. If you just plan to shoot it loud supported from a bipod or whatever, its fine in 20".

They have the links worked ito with the second get ones they currently sell. You might want to consider an adjustable gas block as I have read they are pretty overgased. Other than that should be gtg

For the most part, all .308 / 6.5CM's Large Frame AR's seem to be fairly over-gassed... only one barrel of mine has come with what I consider a proper gas port. ( Krieger ) ... and the PSA is no exception. So plan to use an Adj. GB. ( and given the cost of a PSA complete large frame AR... not a big deal )

There are numerous reasons to "slow" down the cyclic speed. ( Just by milliseconds ) with an Adj. GB

Easier on the brass, easier on the parts, MUCH easier to fire a follow up shot, and much easier on you...

That said, I am on my 9th PSA PA10 / PA65 GenII ( various barrels and lengths, PSA / DC Machine, FN, Criterion, Ballistic Advantage, and after it is built a Krieger. ) .... IMHO, they are a heck of a deal.

And while the .308 has more brute power within 400yds ( IMHO ) than the 6.5CM.... the PSA 6.5CM can shoot some awesome groups with their own barrel.
Add do even better with some moderate tuning.. ( IE, true the upper receiver face )

Just fired this group a few weekends ago... and when I do my part, I will out perform me and my pesky bad bench techniques.
PSA OEM 6.5CM barrel, upper reciever face trued / lapped 100yds, 10rds rapid fire , benched, scoped, bagged front and rear.... Horn. AG 140gr

And while I just posted these in another PSA PA10 / 65 GenII thread... It really does have a lot to say.

Thanks - good info. I think I will run over there & look at them up close. Not in a hurry, and still may spring for one of the pricier ones if I don't like what I see...
Cheers to all!
