I have built some AR 15 lowers with no problems so far. Now I am going to build an AR10 Lower. I have noticed that some of the parts for the AR 15 seem to fit in the AR 10 lower buffer tube, selector switch, mag release etc. My question is there a difference between the AR 15 parts and the AR 10 parts?
Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Take down pins and the bolt hold open are usually different and not even compatible between different manufacturers lowers. I know with the PSA PA10 lower I built, I had to use their take down pins and bolt hold open, other brands were not compatible and neither were AR15 parts.

The takedown pins and the bolt hold open latch are longer as 12 bravo stated. If I remember correctly the spring that locks the rear takedown pin in place needs to be longer for the AR 10 lower. I think midway had a DPMS lower parts kit that I used on my 80% lower build. BTW it did not have the correct spring.

At this point I'd likely be more interested in building an AR10 style upper in an alternate caliber to match one of my existing rifles, I have DPMS and RRA AR 10 style rifles, along with a SIG piston gun that takes the DMPS style magazines.

I learned about this two days ago. I finished and tested my first AR 308 build today. Now I need to learn about buffer springs. The rifle isn't fully cycling.

When I built mine I took note of which lower parts kit brand was recommended by the mfgr of the lower receiver and stuck with that. No problems occurred. Go back and look at their info or contact them.

I built a James Madison lower and installed a DPMS lower parts kit for the 308. The upper is a high rise flat top slick side DPMS. I used a Ballistic Advantage 16" SS Premium barrel with their matching mid length gas system and their matching premium Bolt Carrier Group.

This set up has fired and cycled flawlessly from round one.

Only glitchy part was I wanted an A2 look so I had to modify a mid length A2 hand guard to get it to fit with a Delta Ring. There is no direct fit I could find. These 308 Stoner style gas guns are really inconsistent in design details between manufacturers. Interchangeability is always a problem. They are really designed for float tube hand guards and glass optics. So putting a fixed military aperture rear sight took some customization. But it perfectly matched up with the A2 front sight when I finished.

Simple and "all bidniz". No frills. No toys.
