I'm looking to become involved with grenade launchers. I'd like to start with a 37mm, and also get a Form 1 started and eventually acquire a 40mm.

I've seen that DPMS used to make a 37mm upper, but I didn't see it on their web page. This would probably be my best first option, but I do have a couple of question. Is the barrel rifled, or is it smoothbore? Also, what's the barrel length on that thing?

Does anyone know of anybody who's got a DPMS 37mm upper and is looking to sell it?

I would look for a fed labs such as this one:

or a S&W 37mm like this:

Dont mess around with the DPMS stuff. Get a real 37mm made for police use.

A 37mm with a rifled bore is a DD. I would not form 1 a 37mm; you are too limited with your ammo selection. With the 37mm the barrel length doesn’t matter. The actual cartridge case acts like the barrel. The projectile doesn’t engage the barrel (or rifleing in the case of the 40mm) like in a normal gun or a 40mm.

Here’s my 40mm M203 when I picked it up. Range report coming soon.

If you load 37mm with non-signaling rounds it has to be a legal DD.
I don't quite know what you're talking about... maybe you mean an underslung launcher similar to the M203?

I think he is talking about registering the 37mm as a DD on an ATF form 1.

Otherwise Crunker1337 is correct. Anything other than signaling rounds and (I think) non exploding gas or smoke rounds are illegal to own with a 37mm launcher. The rounds on their own without the launcher are perfectly fine however
