Hi all.....

My name is Jon, and I'm an AR oholic.

Hopefully you fine folks can help me out with a decision.

I have, a problem you see. I have a project AR which is near completion. The only things it needs are:

Bolt Carrier.
Firing Pin
Cam Pin
Firing Pin Retaining Pin
Charging Handle

A2 Upper Buttstock Screw.

Here's my questions of the week:

How hard is it to put together a stripped bolt carrier minus the key and screws?

Is this someting easily accomplished?

Will I need a special tool?

Or, should I just go the lazy route and get a complete bolt carrier group with bolt and have an extra bolt?

It looks to be cheaper to just buy the parts and put it together, but if it's gonna be a pain in the butt, I'll just pay the 119 and get a complete carrier assembly.

Any thoughts/ ideas appreciated.

Jon

It's not hard at all....

Just put the carrier key on the carrier, put the screws in, torque them down and stake them.

See TM 9-1005-319-23&P for all the specs. It's available online at the Maryland AR15 Shooter's site.

Carrier is easy, it's the bolt that might give you trouble. Installing the ejector and extractor would be a lot simlper if you have the tools for it. Especially the ejector.

Do this yourself...anything else is simply a waste. Having an extra is a good idea, but you probably won't need the second one for quite some time.

Gotta do your own. They're not hard at all and it completes your training as an AR mechanic.

I was just thinking, you really don't need two bolt carriers, but you may want to have a few spare bolts. I just don't see the need for the actual carrier though. Save the money and spend it on ammo or other accessories.
