Ok I know that the standard/most common caliber for an AR-15 is .223/5.56. But what other caliber uppers can be fitted to an AR-15 lower?

I tried searchin for it but couldnt come up with anything.

Thanks

As a note though, I do not have a link library of where to find these uppers, most of them I just randomly came across and added it to the list.

Ok thank you so much.

While I got this thread up has anybody purchased from militarygunsupply.com? Are they a reputable place to deal with?

I have been searching recently too. I would like to build a .308 on an AR platform, but the only info I could find for uppers was DPMS and Del-Ton. The Del-Ton site specifies that the .308 upper they sell is pre-ban only. Is there an actual physical difference between pre-ban and post-ban AR lowers that would cause this to not work?

AFIAK, the only differences will be with the muzzle devices on the upper, so you should be good. One thing to note though, there are 2 versions of the AR-10 lower, DPMS style, and Armalite, one uses a radius, like the AR-15, and one uses a angle...:

So, make sure you get a upper that works with the lower.;)

for the standard .223/556 lower, the 6.5 grendel and 6.8 spc are very popular. both are great rounds. what is your use for the gun?

Since the 410 upper was mentioned, I caution that one arfcomer's commented that it wasn't reliable.

I think you missed one.

And people wonder why the AR platform is so popular. It took me eighteen years after leaving the military to come around but I did.

If we get enough AR's in the hands of honest citizens Congress will never be outlaw them again. That is why I take anyone anti or on the fence shooting when I have a chance. It is amazing how quick an anti becomes a gun nut after firing six rounds of .38 out of a heavy .357. :neener:

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I have always wanted a semi-auto .308 that I could play with. This seems like it may be a good project. I wish I could track down some more resources for the different caliber uppers. Seems like 6 months ago I was tripping over conversion articles and now I cant find any other than the Del-Ton and DPMS.

35. 6mm Hagar
This is a weird one. My coach shoots it for match rifle. I believe it is a heavily modified .30 remmington!
Bizarre, I'll just shoot service rifle and smallbore for now :D

I've always said show me an anti who's handled/fired/cleaned guns and, at the least, knows the dictionary definitions of a machine gun, battle rifle, assault rifle, and submachine gun; well, I'm not sure what I'd do if I met an anti like that, but I doubt I ever will.

The AR isn't a bad rifle in my experience. Can be annoying to clean sometimes, and it can't compare in beauty to a M1A, and then you always get into the debate on the effectiveness of the 5.56x45 vs a 7.62x39 or 7.62x51.

I've been looking for a good 5.56x45 upper for my wife's AR-15 lower that came as part of a Rock River Arms 22LR AR. I was at the store the other day and they were selling a gas piston one for $650, looked interesting till the guy told me it was a 6.8mm.

By the way, does anyone know a good autoloader 22 rifle that's not too expensive?

It is a 6.8 SCP necked down to 6mm, with, IIRC, a few shoulder/neck length changes.

Marlin model 60. Cheap, accurate, fun.

And what is this about a .357 sig upper? Got a link, this sounds intresting. :D

I guess I did, the list is ever growing. :D:D:D

Thanks for the tip on the Marlin! That Rock River Arms AR in 22LR has been giving us fits, mostly failure to fully chamber and failure to extract rounds. It's also been having shell casings blow up and get caught in the bolt face rather than extract. The latest thing it did was have the bolt come off the charging handle while firing. We just took it back to the store and they're sending it back to Rock River Arms for repair or replacement.

The store had one of those Marlin 60SNs for $350 so we might just buy one of those real soon.

Can't say I have, but...
http://www.militarygunsupply.com/shop2/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=736 :what:

Who says theres an ammo shortage ;)

They look pretty good, but as someone else mentioned, you might want to start another thread.

See if anyone up in the Fort Worth / Dallas, TX area has been there or maybe you could get someone to drop by and check them out for ya. I might have to check them out myself next time I'm up in that area.

i already started another thread on that and I had people tell me they were good to deal with so I tried em out and they are very good to deal with I wouldnt be hesitant about ordering from them again...just be carefull when you order so as not to double click the submit order button or refresh the page if it says done but its a blank page....

Ive become real interested in the .30 Remington AR. Does anybody make an upper for that caliber...besides the ones made for Remington...for some reason I cant seem to find any...I wanna get an upper that i can use for huntin

Thanks

AFAIK, the only uppers for that caliber are remingtons. It is too new for much else, and the cartridge really didn't get that much publicity.

Oh ok....before that i was thinkin of .243WSSM but i heard that they burn barrels out fairly quick....guess i might go with a 7.62x39 upper for huntin...unless yall can reccomend an AR15 caliber that wont give me a god dang heart attack when i buy ammo for it...lol...

Oh and ill just be hog and deer huntin with it just in case yall needed to know

.300 whisper. Only do it if you reload, but this cartridge equals the 7.62x39 and .30-30, but you can use standard AR mags. Most x39 AR mags don't work well. And, .243 WSSM burns barrels just as bad as the 6mm remington. (in other words, if you are willing to use a 6mm remmy, a .243 WSSM is the same thing. Both will burn up barrels right nice though, espically with the lighter bullets)

All of those calibers up top couldn't possibly work correctly on a .223 lower?? RIght?

ALL those calibers up top can and DO work in a .223 lower. The cartridges that are too long for the mag well are single shot uppers. (.50 BMG, ect)
