30 Remington AR. I can't figure how this cartridge didn't make more of a splash than it did.

Cause everything about it, other than the lower, was proprietary. It uses a unique upper, barrel extension, bolt, and magazine. And like 450 Bushmaster it has very limited magazine capacity. I am really having fun with my 30 RAR but at the same time the reasons it was a market flop is fairly apparent as you play with it.

I’ve killed pigs, deer and coyotes with 5.56, 6.8 SPC, 6.5 Grendel, 300 BLK and 458 SOCOM. My go to is the 6.8 SPC mostly because I love the rifle it’s chambered in. If I had to choose one cartridge to hunt with in an AR-15 it would be 6.8 SPC or 6.5 Grendel. I think both of those cartridges offer more versatility than any of the other rounds mentioned.

Thanks for the replies!

As I am not a hunter (yet), I have zero experience in this area. Your replies surprised me, I was expecting way more 300 Blackout and 7.62x39 responses. But I think I can say that the general overall consensus was typically 6.5 Grendel and 6.8 SPC II.

I have a pump action 30-06 that was my great grandpa's rifle that I'll take deer hunting whenever I can find someone to go with. But this gave me, and my friend, much to think about.

Obviously, one of the huge benefits to ARs is the ability to swap uppers, and therefore cartridges.
