AR-15 feeding through mag and bullet weight

I'm trying to pick a bullet for my AR that I'm waiting to show up. It is 1:7 twist, I plan to shoot service rifle. Range 200-600 yards. Is there a weight that will feed though the magazine and cover that range of distance? If not, what two weights should I work around?

Second question, what is the best deal around on that bullet(s) and bullet weight(s)?

Any of the 75-grain and 77-grain match bullets will be perfect for your application.

Load them to 2.250 overall length to be sure the noses don't drag on the inside of the mag.

FYI most mags feed bullets up to 2.26 inches in length without a problem.

I've shot a bunch of them.
They are excellent.
I'll be shooting them at 200 and 300 this season.

I prefer the non-magazine-length 80-grain Sierra bullet for 600.
I'm sure the 75's and 77's will do a good job too.

Give yourself the 0.010 margin for error unless you plan to "uniform he meplat" on every bullet.

Seen too many magazine malfunctions on ammo that was supposedly 2.260.

the military shooters and A few of the top shooters will stay with a 75 or 77 grain NON vld type of bullets that are made to be loaded in a mag. What the ideal behind it is that you get to use the same round you are shooting knots with at 200 and 300 yards and it is believed to really help your vertical displacements on your shots.

Now myself I use lapua 77's at 200 and 300 and switch out to berger 75 vld's at 600 to 1k in my service rifle. Same thing in my match rifles. Nothing like a palma match shooting a open sight ar15 at 800, 900 and 1000 yards.

I may lose a little elevation changes with the 75 vld's at long range but find the wind bucking capibility to far out weight it in my belief. In my case I think it is more of a case as I have always found the 75 vld's to work great for me at longer ranges but alas they are a NON mag lenght bullet.

A non vld in 75 or 77 grain bullet will do pretty much what ever you wish it to do in the sport you wish it to do. hornady, berger, lapua and sierra are the main ones that come to mind with the sierra 77's and the hornady 75 grainers as the most commanly used in high power matches.

you might try and contact a few shooters who do that sport and your Area is big on it. they can steer you maybe a group buy or they may have a team price also. other wise one of the on-line wholesalers is the best bet.

hornady, berger, lapua and sierra are the main ones that come to mind with the sierra 77's and the hornady 75 grainers as the most commanly [sic] used in high power matches

I wouldn't omit Nosler from that list, including the most commonly used - they're essentially identical to Sierras or have a very slightly better BC.
