AR-15 handguard.....

Does anyone know an easy way to remove the handguard from an AR-15 by yourself, and without the tool you see online everywhere??

any help is greatly appreciated.

I just put the rifle buttstock down on the floor, push down on the delta ring with both hands, and use the fingers of one hand to nudge the handguards out.

Spend the money and get the tool-----makes your life much easier when it comes to AR's.

there's a tool for taking them off? Every troop in the Army just uses there hand to pull the ring down and pull the handguards off.

Not hard if you can find a second person to help, but buy the tool.

If you can get them off once without the tool, you can trim some material from the back end of the handguards to make future removal/replacement easier. Just don't over do it.

There's a good post over on ar15.com on how to make your own tool for about $1.50. I did it. All it takes is a vice, a piece of steel rod, and a propane torch like you use for plumbing to heat the rod up. (and some rubber hose)

Before that I did it like people said. Just set it on the floor. If you have a strong hand you can pull it down with one and get the guards off with the other but it's tough.

near the FSB
with the butt on the floor
push down with both hands on the delta ring
tug on the cord with yer teeth

What's wrong with the old-fashioned way? It seemed to work for me and quite a few other folks in the military since the mid-60's. Granted, it's not the easiest task in the world, but, it's not impossible.

On new ARs (that I've had a chance to disassemble) the springs for the ring are pretty stiff requiring two hands to keep the ring depressed. What I've done in the past is cut a length of wire from a coat hanger leaving a little hook at one end, depress the ring, and with the wire held by my teeh pull out one of the halves using the notch at the rear or one of the vent holes.
