I have been looking at AR-15 style rifles chambered in 9mm. Thinking this could be alot of shooting fun. Looking for input and experiences from those that own or have owned one of these. Thank-you.
Fun to shoot and more economical than rifle calibers. I've got a Colt LE 6450 that I like but can't really justify any other way. Toys do not have to make sense!
I have an Oly Arms 9 mm upper that's a blast to shoot. No recoil, fast target reacquisition, cheaper ammo. Only drawback is this one uses modified Sten mags which are a bear to load.

I've got a couple of Uzi mag conversions and love the hell outa them. Great Coyote carbine and rockin' fun to shoot.
While I'm sure some will poo-poo the practice, mine are very agreeable to shoot (outdoors) without hearing protection. Recoil is almost non existent. On top of that they swallow any cheap Mi-wal bulk reloads that I get at shows so they're silly cheap to shoot and freakishly accurate with good ammo.
I would certainly get one with a threaded muzzle. I see a lot are sold with slick barrels but get the threaded at least to have a protective hider in place. Also note that a lot of the uppers get finnicky when fired with a A-1/2 stock but a CAR/M-4 spring with a spacer will keep you from needing to get a collapsible stock if you don't already have one.
Most of us have not had luck with projectiles below 118 grain too so keep that in mind.
I have a Colt 6450. Lots of fun, and quite accurate. Eats ammo from 115 to 147 gr with impunity. I use Metalform mags. I have some C Product mags that function ok, but others have reported problems and Colt no longer includes them with the 6450; they went back with Metalform as their OEM.
Would have to agree with comments above. I have a RRA 9mm AR that I've had for a few years, and is great to shoot. Can shoot it at my local indoor range because it's a pistol caliber (no rifle calibers), little recoil (not that a .223 has a great deal to begin with), cheap to feed, all the AR toys fit on it, really simple to clean due to the blowback design, 30 round Promag's to shoot from, etc. I'm actually looking to sell it because it just doesn't get enoungh range time, but wouldn't hesitate to get another if I got the bug!
I have one that I built using Glock mags. The only way it made sense to me, is if it can use the same magazines as your pistol. Fun, smooth and a RIOT to shoot. Too much fun with a suppressor on it too.
I read an article in a magazine with good reviews of the JP-Enterprises 9mm rifle. They said the way the heavy bolt recoils makes it close enough to a 5.56 to be a valid training alternative. (I don't have one, but the article said it was awesome!)
I am in love with mine. Surprised at the solid "thump" of the recoil. It's very accurate and manageable, but with the heavy bolt and ultra-heavy 9mm buffer, it has a much different recoil impulse than a .223. I like it! The Thompson Machine Isis does a great job, too.
