I really want to buy my first AR 15, and I'm concerned about prices. After a lot of research, I have decided to go with a Colt LE 6920. I saw only one 6920 at an Atlanta area gun show the other day (April 2009) selling for $1800. I tried to get the price down but the guy wouldn't budge, and said he sold 6 at that price the day before. I was tempted to buy it anyway, but I decided to wait and get a better price.

I noticed that Obama announced last week during his trip to Mexico that his administration would not seek any gun bans. House and Senate leaders Pelosi and Reid are against gun bans (Hard to believe, but I read this in the news). Will this announcement eventually cause the prices to go back down? Should I wait to buy that new Colt?

Do what you want. Gunbroker has them cheaper and they have been falling for a month or two. Wait if you want of buy if you want. Your money and your fun. Oh and there is a topic on the prices of the exact same model just half a page down from here. Look around a bit and see what you find.

That sure seems high. My local dealer has an Armalite AR-10 flat-top new for $1500. I only wish I had the scratch....

There are cheaper ARs out there for the value (Stag, DPMS, Bushmaster just to name a few).

No offense intended, but I will put it bluntly. None of those three are near the quality of Colt. And I'm certainly not a Colt fanatic of any type.

To the OP: I'd try to seek out a better price on the Colt. I've posted in other threads that it looks like some places are getting in some Colts in greater numbers, so it shouldn't be too hard to find one for a more reasonable price.

You may want to seek out a Daniel Defense rifle for that price. They are selling for about $1600, actually. Colts are more normally priced down towards $1400, and before the election, you could occasionally find one for around $1200. LMT, Charles Daly, S&W, Sabre Defense, would also be worthy of consideration. One of the problems with the higher quality AR manufacturers besides Colt is that many are smaller manufacturers that had backlogs long before the election.

I see someone mentioned Clyde Armory. Yeah, check them out.

Bushmaster, DPMS, Rock River Arms etc. all offer some very high quality rifles for ~$400.00+ cheaper than Colt.

I can't imagine being buying an AR and being "unsatisfied" with any of the cheaper manufacturers. Much of the higher price of the Colt is simply because of the name.

I'd go with a cheaper rifle and spend the rest on ammo/accessories. That's what I did about a year ago with my first AR-15. I got a DPMS 16" flat top for $850, 4 extra MagPul mags, quad-rail handguard, forward grip, ammo, and a Bushnell MP trophy red dot sight for what you are looking to pay for just the colt alone.

I've had no problems with the DPMS, works great, looks great........if I were to ever buy another AR I would have a hard time justifying a couple hundred more for what is essentially the same product.

At's too much money for the Colt-take your time and you can find deals out there-not every distributor/gun shop is price gouging. Our local shop refuses to buy from distributors that have jacked prices up.

I wasn't really in the market, but a gun shop/police supply dealer 1 town away got 10 of the Colts and sold 'em all for $1200-one followed me home at that price (I already had a RRA and Colt SP-1).

Was at the local dealer the other day and he had a new Armalite M-15 for $895-at's less than MSRP-if I was in the market, it would probably have come home with me. It didn't last long, but he got quite a few DPMS, all of which were under 1K-think he's down to his last one.

It would help when if you at least post what state you're in-some folks might be able to help you out with shops in your area, but they have no idea where you're located?

I finally got it

Hey guys. I'm a proud owner of a brand new Colt LE 6920. I finally found a decent price in Columbus GA. The sticker price was $1489.99. I sure am glad I didn't pay $1800 at that gun show last weekend. That guy was definitely price gouging. I heard you can get them at $1550 in Athens GA. That is really a great store in Columbus, probably because fort Benning is nearby. Have patience and don't pay the jacked up prices at gun shows.

I haven't shot it yet, but it looks great. The finish is flawless and it is lighter and smaller than I expected. Now I'm going to look into upgrades to add on to it. Any suggestions? The only complaint I have is it only came with 20 round mags, and the handguard is not a rail system. I think it was a good deal overall.:D
