The amount of knowledge I currently have about AR 15s you could put in a 22shell. I am learning. I recently acquired two of them in trades and my question is by using the parts from both guns which parts would you put together in to one gun and why?

#1) Stag arms lower half with fixed A2 stock, 2 stage match trigger, Upper ? and has 20" barrel stamped B MP 5.56 NATO 1/9 HBAR, dust cover, PWS Compensator, Troy Industries folding rear sight, Front sight is a Yankee Hill hooded folding sight, 1/4" scope riser and chrome bolt assy.

#2) Charles Daly CCD 15 lower with tactical stock, Upper is DPMS 16 inch chrome lined 1/9 bull barrel with crowned top and stock front/rear folding sights.

The DPMS receiver appears to be more heavy duty than the other one.

Thanks for your opinion. The bull barrel is not better than the HBAR? I assumed it would be better for accuracy. What's a float tube?

The receiver on the DPMS is extruded rather than forged. That is why is seems heavier, due to increasing the material thickness to make up for the weaker material.

To me a 16" bull barrel is a bit silly and too heavy for what I do. Though I shoot tactical rifle matches where you are moving a lot and shooting from strange positions. Honestly they will be about equal, but I am just a bigger fan of rifles than I am of carbines.

A float tube is a "hand guard" that eliminates all exterior pressure on the barrel. They tend to go for any where from $120 up. I am kicking around getting this one for my rifle:

Understand about the float tube to free float the barrel for accuracy and thanks.

If I gather what you both are saying is that the stag setup is better than the CCD 15 one? Even though it appears the guy dropped more money on the Charles Daly.

I'll go in reverse on your rifles.

The 16" DPMS upper appears to be a Panther Lo Pro model. The extruded aluminum upper adds slight weight, but you're correct that the bull barrel is why it feels so heavy. I'm also pretty confident that the barrel is not chrome lined. The front sight on that upper looks like an NcStar or ProMag model. The rear sight looks like a Matech or a copy of the Matech sight. The lower looks to be stock.

The "B MP" stamping on the 20" upper tells us that the barrel was made by Bushmaster. The "B MP" being an abbreviation for Bushmaster Magnetic Particle; a copy of Colt's "C MP" stamping. While Colt individually magnetic particle inspects their barrels, Bushmaster does batch testing. The Bushmaster barrel is very likely chrome lined. The bolt carrier group appears to an aftermarket externally chromed or nickel boron coated unit. The lower has a MagPul MIAD grip, and a MagPul enhanced trigger guard.

my question is by using the parts from both guns which parts would you put together in to one gun and why?
I'd leave the 16" bbl upper on the collapsible stock lower, and the 20" bbl upper on the fixed stock lower. Which one to keep depends on your intended use for the rifle.

Shoot both. Figure out which one you want. I would keep both until it was obvious that i needed to sell one. The DPMS would not be my choice to purchase, but since you have it shoot it. I also am fond of rifle length ARs right now.

Nice score

Thanks

Very much appreciated!

Thanks for the information about the Bushmaster I did not know that. The guy I traded for it never mentioned that part and probably assumed I knew. I have not fired either gun yet. You are correct on the rear sight of the gun being made by that company. I have no idea whos parts are better or preferable over other manufactures. I looked up a CCD15 and the prices are up around $1200 to $1700 for a new one so I assumed it was a well built AR. Then I found out they went out of business.
