How do I zero a red dot scope on my AR-15? It's used for plinking only and I have a Tasco ProPoint mounted in front of the carry handle on an A2 version AR upper. My goal is to zero similar to the army at 25 meters (I only have a 25 yard range, according to Maryland AR-15 shooters website I need to shoot zero about 3/8 of an inch low at 25 yards) . I understand the basics of zeroing a regular scope but don't know if it's the same for a Red Dot. It seems to me that it would but I want to make sure. I'm not sure what other information is needed to help me with this. So if I left somethng out please let me know.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I discovered one problem when I got the scope mounted. It won't co-witness with the iron sites and I can't figure out why. The mount sits too high in the carry handle so I must be doing something wrong. I won't be able to zero until I figure it out.

The cheap one through CDNN, it says BEC on the package. It looks straightforward but sits too high in the carry handle for me to use the iron sites.

The ProPoint sits too high to co-witness the iron sites. So, I need to come up with another alternative. It seemed like a good starter optic set up. The Propoint was only $69 through CDNN and the mount was $39. I figured if I liked having the scope out over the handguards I would move the ProPoint to my Ruger 44 and get the EOTech. For now I'll mount the scope on top of the carry handle which actually is more comfortable for me due to neck and back problems. On the plus side, the cheapo mount is well made and very solid.
