I'm pretty new on the rifle side of things. Been hooked on anything that goes bang for a longtime but never made the jump to rifles, until now.
I got a sig sauer m400 enhanced model and have been shooting the day lights out of it. Its a real fun shooter. Thus far how ever I've only been shooting with the irons.
I've decided I want some sort of sight on top. So first I started researching companies I know from my experience with pistols: trijicon and metrop light but all of their rifle stuff is out of my price range right now.
I went to my buddies house who is a big ar guy to seek advice. He pointed me in the directon of eotec and aimpoint. Again out of my price range.
I have 200$ I'd like to put into the sight. The two I've found, that look the best in my price range is the Bushnell trophy red dot(159$) and the tru glow 2x42mm red and greed dot sight(113$). None of my shooting buddies have any rifle sights by either of these companies, so I"m going off of sight pictures from the net.
Between the two of these which ones would thr reccomend? Or for 200$ could I do better than these two? I'm wide open for suggestions as I do not no much about these sights. I just know I want something compact with a red or green dot. Thanks in advance for any help.

Check out the Vortex Strikefire. I've never used it but people say its a good cheap red dot sight.

The only sub $150 optic I can recommend is the PA Aimpoint Micro clone. It's durable (my buddies have run them on AKs and shotguns), tiny, light, cheap, and the battery lasts for days while the dot is actually pretty bright.

It uses the same mounting points as the real Aimpoint Micro, so if you ever get the real deal, you can use the same mounts.

The real Aimpoint Micro is way better in optical quality, has a battery life of years, and can run brighter or dimmer than the PA. OTOH, the PA is ~$400 cheaper.

Run the irons for now and put an eotech or aimpoint on layaway. I have a sig st-081. It's a great 40 yard red dot. It's very durable as I am not at all gentle with my ar. At 80 yards you can barely see the dot on the target. I shot an eotech the same day at the same distance and could see the dot on my target perfectly.

Thanks for the advice thus far guys. The lay away sounds like a good plan. Everyone is advising the eotech, or aimpoint route. Might as well buy one solid optic, as apposed to a few cheap ones. I try not to "skimp" on gun related things. Just in a hurry to fix it up....typical youngster I suppose.

Get an Aimpoint PRO. They are priced real decently... usually just a little over $400, with a mount included. All the Aimpoint quality you've heard about... 2 MOA dot, will run constant on for years on one battery, NV compatible... the works.

I bought a Primary Arms Microdot for both of my ARs just to have something until I could afford an Aimpoint/EO-Tech. Well, my stars fell into alignment recently, and I ordered a couple of Aimpoint PRO scopes this week ($400 each at RifleGear.com). I should be receiving them on Monday.

I have a M&P15-22 that will inherit one of the PA scopes, and the 2nd one will be kept as a spare.

The PA scopes have been great, except I tend to forget to turn them off before putting the guns back in the safe, and they're typically dead by the time the weekend rolls around again, so I have a crapload of spare batteries for those occasions. :)
