AR 15 SP1 – Mounting an EO Tech sight, a Bipod and Fix Trigger

I have an older, AR-15 SP1 with standard size 16” barrel. Basically, sans about 100 rounds, haven’t fired it much until about 6 months ago. I purchased an EO Tech holographic sight and mounted it on top of the handle. It felt a bit awkward, as it was kind of high so I removed it.

I would really like to use the EO Tech sight. Does anyone have experience with forward of the handle mounting the holographic sight using one of those longer mounts? If so I’d really like to hear about it. Also what mount would be of good quality?

I also want to install a bipod. I would like a high quality unit and a clean installation. Can you point me in the right direction?

On more thing, I have a question about is the trigger. It grates, catches and basically is pretty crappy. Can I just send just the trigger assembly somewhere and get that problem fixed without sending the entire gun?

Not sure about the Eotech questions.....

Bipod - check out Harris. They make good quality stuff.

Trigger - if you want to spend some cash, you can go with a Rock River 2-stage. I have one on my AR and like it very much. Plus you should be ably to switch it out with the standard yourself, no need to send it in.

Thanks JonB Rock River also has the forward mount. Also like the look of the Harris products.

I dont have any experiance with the cantilever mounts, my previous, current, and next AR are all flattops, so I havent had a need for them.

I'd rather go with railed handguards, but they're more expensive. Even then, the EOTech is on the same plane as your iron sights. If you dont like that (I dont), you have to get a riser for the EOTech (specificly for the EOTech) to raise it over your irons. You can get a YHM for about $35 or $40, or a LaRue which retails for about $120.

I remember seeing a cantilever mount that had a height adjustment for the rail over the handgaurds, that would probably be your best (least expensive) route, if its from a quality manufacturer.

Either way you go, if your SP1 still has the A1 rear aperture, I'd reccomend replacing it with at least an A2, or even better, the XS same-plane.

Google the "ten minute triggerjob" and you may be able to clean up the trigger yourself.

Thanks for the link on the EO Tech mounting. Exactly what I was looking for. I must have gone right past it even with the exacting thread title. Some days are better than others. Ultimately I think I set up something new in a flat top with a heavy barrel etc. but for now I just wanted to make the one I have a little more user friendly. On some days the eyes are getting a bit fuzzy with the irons and no sense in letting it set another 30 years in the safe collecting safe dust.
