Well I am looking into getting an AR 15 and need info on the gun I know nothing of this type of rifle:eek: please educate me on them the one I am looking at is made by Windham Weaponry thank you.

Windham is the former owner and employees of Bushmaster. A good consumer-grade quality rifle. If it is a good buy or right for you entirely depends on what you want to use it for.

Recommend that if you are looking at buying one, you educate yourself. Lots to read about, at your fingertips, if you are so inclined to search.

Have not heard/read any bad reviews. Since it's the OLD Bushmaster people before the BM name was bought out by Freedom Group, I would think they are GTG. I looked at a couple of them in store and they seemed tight and good quality.

Then why do you want one? I know that sounds snarky, but unless you know what you want it for, it's hard to really say much.

One of the stickies in the rifle section has a ton of links specific to AR-15s. I started there and then started asking specific or clarifying questions here.

As others have said it is pretty hard to make a very useful recommendation or provide useful info without first knowing what your intended uses and expectations are. My first choice for an AR for varmint hunting would differ radically for a gun meant to be a defensive weapon that would see multiple carbine classes and regular use. A 3 gun competition AR would be different from both. You can find something much cheaper, that will still leave you happy if the intended use is a a light use range gun.

Another helpful thing to know is your max budget for the rifles and accessories.

I want one because I don't have on its main purpose will be hd and I really like the idea of switching uppers and all the aftermarket stuff you can get for one no it is not for hunting. The reason I ask questions here is because I get straight honest answers and don't have to wade through a bunch of bs to get the facts or hear stuff like"if you don't know about AR 15's your'e an idiot and don't need one"

Also the total I am looking to spend is about 1000 bucks The Windham I am looking at I can get for under 700 so I think its what I want.

$700 is a good price for a complete rifle. If you get a flat top upper, then consider your sights options. You can go with a simple rear aperture for a light weight minimalist approach, or you can go with some type of glass. Some prefer red dots for speed, some prefer scopes. They make "AR" scopes that look short and fat. Not sure what they do.

I go with an everyday variable scope. The low setting is fast enough for me, and the high setting allows me to see things beyond 300 yards. But it's not very tactical looking.

If your gun has rails then you can also put other stuff on it like a flashlight, laser, vertical fore grip, sling, bipod, etc.

Personally, the best accessory I ever bought for my AR was a brass catcher. Makes life much easier.

If defensive use is the intended purpose that really narrows down what I personally would even consider. There are a few makers which are well proven. The $1000 budget is reasonable but does narrow the list further. With $1000 I would look at BCM and Colt. My preference would be for BCM because the quality is there but they offer configurations I prefer. Personally for defensive use I think a light weight 14.5" barrel with a pinned muzzle device (which one is a whole new discussion) and a mid length gas system is the way I'd go. You may find you'd prefer a different configuration. A lot can, and has been said, about the merits of the various choices. You can't go wrong with a BCM.

A gun that may be worth considering is one of the Palmetto State armory patrol rifle packages. They include an aimpoint pro optic (about a $400 value). These packages are often sold for $999. This is a very good value given the specs of the PSA gun. An aimpoint offers a lot to a defense gun IMHO. I will say the only one they have available is not the barrel profile that I personally would want. What PSA has available changes pretty often. It may be worth watching their website once you have determined what it is you'd like.
