so I have my ar a2 that I enjoy shooting but as my eyes are not as clear as they were a few years back I am thinking of
some type of optic that will help see the target better at say 200 to 300 yards , I can still hit center mass paper targets with the a2 sights just fine but would like to shoot a better group , the rifle is capable of doing it just my eyes are getting a bit fuzzy
any suggestions on something for the carry handle
maybe something like a burris ar‑536 prism sight 5x ballistic I think these have an option to mount direct to a carry handle
thinking it is not as big as a full sized scope it could work well ?
what do you guys think ?

I can tell you from experience that you can spend lots of money and not be happy. Mainly due to the fact that you have to mount the optic too high to get a proper cheek weld. You can then build up a cheek riser, but I have never found them to be satisfactory.

That is why my one AR with an A2 rear sight is iron only, and all of my other ARs are flat tops.

I have a Colt 4x clone on an A2, and it works well. Sure, it's higher than optimal, but so long as you have a fixed stock and not a collapsible, it's not uncomfortable getting a semi-decent hold on it. collapsible will work too, it's just not at all comfortable.

also, here's a link to a retro-optics thread at ar15.com

Add a cheekpiece to your stock, an optic over the top will work just fine. I had a 6-18x40mm on top of an M4A2 clone for many years - $20 clip on cheek riser was all I needed.

This works great! Used one for years. Only now I have pulled it off, because I had the Lasik done and now I can do better with the old irons. Expensive though but worth it.
