AR build in 30-30? Anyone?

Well, no. The 'rim issue' is not just the rim lock problem; it is also the fact that the AR15 bolt face won't readily accommodate the large rim of the 30-30. You might could get an AR10 bolt face opened up to fit the 30-30, but there wouldn't be much left of the bolt when you'd be done.....
Yes. It is the basic issue.

I would do a .300BLK build and be done with it. The standard parts, save the barrel, will all work. Maybe that's not unique enough for you, but it would get the ballistics you are after, and it would *work*.

As noted above, the 30-30 is too long to fit in an AR magazine. The 30-30 casing is just about as long as a .308 or 7.62x51 casing. The round is also tapered, and the tapered profile of the 7.62x39 round is known to have trouble feeding from straight profile AR magazines.

As they say - there's nothing new under the sun..I have thrown in the towel, given up the ghost and generally called it quits. My cup is empty, my geese have flown and my horses no longer held. All is lost. Thank you all for an entertaining debacle.

At first I thought to build your basic 7.62x39 mainly because of cost and ballistics, but that was back when I thought there was little difference between it and the 30-30 deer round

FWIW, I've never noticed my deer being any less dead after being hit with a 7.62x39 than one hit with a 30-30. The performance on deer sized game is close enough I've yet to meet a deer that could tell the difference. For practical purposes, there IS little difference between the 7.62x39 and the 30-30 Winchester.

There is still little difference.

Ok, looks like the question is answered. No need to "dog pile" any further.

Maybe next time try for something more practical. Like a double rifle in .220 Swift. :D
