Are AR BUIS (backup iron sights) popular? If so, let's see them. I don't know which brands are good. Some flip up BUIS systems are very expensive and some are on the lower end. What else can an expensive BUIS provide?

I can provide the "spacer" that is needed when installing a dot sight, if you go with an ARMS Swan sleeve with #40 rear sight. It clamps VERY tight on the flat top and there are also extended versions to give more rail. They also allow you to use medium rings instead of high rings adding strength to the scope setup. Expensive? YEAH! But it is the best investment I made for the rig. Sorry, camera battery is dead, but the link is:

i don't have one because they are popular i have one because they make sense. if the opyic goes down you need to be able to stay in the fight and that would be hard to do without a buis.

there is 2 different models that i have used and like. i like the GG&G mad, and the matech with the adjustable elevation switch.

here you can see the matech lying flat on the ar in the down position.

NO "fighting" rifle should be without the ability to shoot accurately should a tube with glass in it actually break.

BUIS is never having to say "Eeeep!!!"

I have the cheaper YHM flip-up BUIS on my AR. I've been very satisfied with the set.

At this time, I don't have any BUIS on my LR-308. It WILL have some eventually, but it really isn't a priority that I have to fill this instant.

You MAY be able to see the BUIS on my AR on the left:

TROY flip up rear battle sight behind an Aimpoint Micro T-1
perched on a LaRue LT660 riser for the "correct" co-witness.
I also have an M4 style TROY flip up front battle sight installed.

i run a fixed behind my eotech - lower third cowitness - on my M4 type carbine , it is easy for the eye to react if it shuts down

ive got a removeable carry handle for my A3 type because if the ACOG goes down its gotta be removed anyway

I have the inexpensive (about $75) YHM BUIS. No riser under my EOTech means absolute co-witness.

I have used both sights separately and at the same time, everything works great.

The differences in price are USUALLY due to how solidly the BUIS mounts, how robust it is, how easy it is to use, how firmly it locks into position, how large it is, and what sort of aperture features (multiple apertures, range/elevation adjustments, windage adjustments) it offers, etc. Unsurprisingly, a rock-solid non-bulky BUIS that is easy to flip up and locks solid, with many features, is NOT cheap to engineer and manufacture, and so it is not inexpensive to purchase.

My PERSONAL opinion is that I want easy deployment, robust construction, rock-solid lock-up, and small footprint above anything else. I went with Troy rear BUISes.
