AR canted Barrel

Also your front sight is pinned so rolling that to the left is out. You still may be able to loosen the barrel nut, roll the barrel to the left a little, hold it there and re tighten the barrel nut. Kinda of a bit of work, for what might be nothing gained, ...unless you have the tools and know what you're doing.

How much would it cost to have this fixed? I don't have kids, so even a couple hundred dollars is half a day lost at work.

Shouldn't be too much. Do you have a reputable gunsmith near you? You could try calling Colt and see if you can send it in.

I live in a large city, so anything gun related locally will be an hour drive. I'm only familiar with the FFLs that are willing to do sales/transactions in a major city. I'll probably have to send it back to colt.

Take the upper off the lower. Place the upper on a surface where you can set it in such a way that the flat top is level from side to side. Check this with a level. Once you know the flat top is level, look at the front sight base to see if there is a visible cant. If not carefully place another level across the top of the protective ears on the front sight post, and compare with the level on the flat top.

Where do live Bill? Are you familiar with hand tools? Ever use a torque wench and dial calipers? .... not that you would have to fix this yourself.... I don't want to get you in over your head but is you take the hand guards off you can see the barrel nut there. It looks like this;

AR10 on the left, AR-15 on the right.

I'll mail you the wrench you need to take it of but for the cost of shipping both ways you could buy one yourself.

See that thing there in back to the right? mO9PF8xl.jpg That's the wrench. Pretty simple. Set it in the barrel nut and with a breaker bar and twist it off. Once it's loose you can check for side to side play in your barrel and upper. It the is some twist it so the front sight goes t the direction of bullet impact, opposite of where you want them to impact.

You can set the upper in a vice and bore site it on something a 20 feet away and then see where the sights are. Hang a level and the bore and sights should line up but the sites will be about two inches high which is where it should be. If you need to twist the barrel more that the pin in the barrel and the notch in the upper will let you, you can very gently file a little out of the notch on the side you need to go to get you there.
