Need opinion here from anyone. Can anyone tell me anything about Bushmaster's AR15? Have located one for $700 that has never been fired, has removable carry handle with flat rail, collapsible stock and doesn’t have a scratch one it. Anyone have any problems with Bushmaster I would like to know what some think about this AR platform. Is this brand AR comparable to a Colt in quality parts? Is this a well-built rifle that is dependable as is or does it require tuning by a smith to be dependable?

Don't buy it! Send the info to me :) .

The only "tuning" I have ever done on my Bushmaster is to a good cleaning every 500 rounds or so.

If its not from a dealer, it has been fired. All I ever see for sale is "never fired" and "only fired two magazines". :scrutiny: I never see anyone with an ad:
"AR for sale. You know that ammo at gun shows sold by the crate? This baby ate all of it."

I don't doubt its lightly used, but if the seller is saying its "never been fired", he is more than likely lying, which would make me wonder if he is just going for top dollar, or if something else might be wrong with it.

Sounds like a good deal. A new one like that goes for about $900 around here. I love mine.

i have three bushmasters. evryone of them has been great. i have the 24 inch varmit gun i use for groundhogs and the sniper match i shoot once a year it is impressively acurate as long as i do my job, i also have 2 of the 16 inch hbars one set up as a house gun, and the other i use for 3-gun. it has taken quite a beating and shot a ton of ammo, but continues to run like a champ.

I love my Bushy M4gery....no complaints here. I have the M4A3 "Patrolman" and I paid $875 for it new. Honestly with ammo prices the way they've been and my lack of free time I haven't put a lot of rounds through mine, a few hundred or so. However it hasn't had any problems yet and its a lot of fun to shoot on the rare occasions I have time to actually shoot it. I replaced the pistol grip with a better one and added an Aimpoint and flip-up rear sight to it. I bought this gun basically as a plinker and fun gun, I really don't shoot it much at the range, I take it out in the desert and shoot cans and junk with it, I got it as a stress reliever, like my AK's:D

Here she is......

I had an M4A2. The sight block was canted, and I had to adjust the windage almost all the way out to get it zeroed in at 100 yards. Called up Bushmaster. They replaced the barrel with a new sight block, and had it back to me before the end of the week. It was two clicks off center at 100 yards. Customer service was great.

Aside from that, where I used to work it was the issue rifle. We didn't have any problems with them, and I never had a problem with mine.

bushy's are quite the tasty, and have one of the toughest standards on the bbl making process, over other ar bbl producers, "chef reccommends"...

I've got one that I bought right after the AWB expired and it's been shot alot. (I got lucky and bought a bunch of 5.56 when it was $1.86 a box . . .and then bought reloading dies) I'd be all over one for $700.

I think the round count on mine is up near 2500 right now and it's never missed a beat. FWIW.

Have a good one,
Dave

I worked part time at a gun shop. Maybe 1/3 of all trade-ins were unfired. You'd know because we sold it originally and they guy would bring back the original box of ammo he bought with it. We had other guys that loved guns but never, and I mean never shot.

Anyway, I'd buy it. FWIW...the shop I used to work at was selling name brand shortly AR's this fall for $799.

Sounds like a good deal. I just got one (Patrolman Carbine) in a trade and took it to the range yeaterday to sight it in. Despite the fact that the guy I got it from had no idea how to clean it, it ran like a dream. I was using cheap Fiochi ammo even. As a former US Army Armorer I am impressed with the quality and funtion. I say buy it, get a case of ammo (avoid steel case ammo as ARs tend to hate that stuff), a bunch of GI mags and have fun. Oh, also do a search online and find an Army TM for the M16 and follow the directions for cleaning and maintenace and it will run well for you.

I was talking with a guy I work with the other day, and he informed me that he bought a Glock 23 the day after 9-11. I asked him how many rounds he had through it. "None", he says, "Never shot it." I think a lot of folks buy a gun figuring that they will shoot it when they need it.

There are also those that think just owning it will keep them safe. :what:

I am a big fan of Bushmaster chrome lined barrels.
I have owned a Bushmaster Dissapater carbine since 1990 and we sell them in the shop I work for.
Overalll quality is excellent.

I have only two complaints about them.
1. I don't like the AR15 semi auto bolt carriers they offer, too much material is removed and I feel this causes some feed issues.
I would rather use M16 bolt carriers but In my state this can cause issues so I use semi auto bolt carriers from High Standard which are not as radically machined as the Bushmaster version.

2. Bushmaster does not use the correctly dimensioned "F" marked front sight base/gas block on their flat top carbines and rifles even though their flat top uppers are correctly dimensioned to flat top specifications, they use the standard Mil-Spec forged A1-A2 fixed carry handle FSB.
The Bushmaster detachable carry handle is dimensioned to work correctly with their FSB and this little annoyance will not affect scope mounting on the rail.
It will affect dot optic mounting and back up iron sight zeroing.
They do offer a taller front sight to allow a correct zero when using a back up iron sight or a Mil-Spec detachable carry handle.
You can also use one of the tritium front sights which offer a greater range of adjustment than the standard A2 front sight post.

A third issue which does not really bother me but may irritate some buyers is that the collapser stocks they now offer are commercial dimension six position types instead of the Mil-Spec dimension four position M4 stock.
Early Bushmasters did have Mil-Spec tubes, that is all that was available at the time.
My Dissapater carbine came with a Mil-Spec four position tube and early M4 Polymer/Nylon stock.

I own a Bushmaster. The Bushmasters are excellent rifles. Reliable, well built, mil spec right out of the box. They build rifles for the military too as I remember bing in the Army and seeing bushmaster M16's. As for the comment "never fired"...well, as the old saying goes "trust, but verify"

One comment, recently I think April 2007, the company was acquired by a VC. I wonder what this acquisition will mean for the quality of the product.

Have had one of their M4geries for about 2 yrs now, have about 2000 rounds through it. Only issue I ever had with it was one failure to extract. This turned out to be a very common issue with carbines. The bolt opening on them is faster and more violent than on rifle-length gas tubed rifles, and the fixes are pretty well understood. Essentially it's an extractor spring tension affair. I installed a "D-Fender ring and that was the end of that. Just one of those things that you learn sooner or later.

Only other change I made on it was to swap out the standard creepy stock trigger (common to all basic ARs across the line) for a Jard non-adjustable unit. Money well spent.

By way of comparison I had a Colt CAR-15 back in the 1980s. I am pretty demanding on weapons quality, and as far as I'm concerned the BM is its equal.

Don't buy it!! I just got a Bushmaster M4A3 for Christmas. That thing has been nothing but a headache since. Took to the range 3 seperate time and shot 3 different types of ammo, the rifle repeatedly short stroked, failed to feed, failed to eject and stove piped. Took the rifle back to store where it was purchased. They shipped it back to Bushmaster with clearly stated instructions to replace the entire upper assembly. Contacted Bushmaster personally to reiterate the problems and request replacement upper assembly. Was told their gunsmith would contact me directly, never did. The replaced the bolt, "alleviated chamber" pressure, polished the chamber and feed ramps. Received the rifle back from the store, now it will not chamber any brass .223 while dry cycling. They test fired 90 rounds through it supposedly. The gas tube has changed color they heated it up so badly. The store where it was purchased from is so bent out of shape over how Bushmaster handled it they are completely replacing the rifle tomorrow for me. Who buys something new, has a problem with it, takes it back only to have it rigged and handed back to you in worse shape. The rifle was new and I expected to receive a replaced new upper assembly not one tinkered and machined on! Don't buy it, go with a Colt or an Armalite instead.

welcome to thr,
i own a bushmaster and have experience with several bushmasters and i couldn't be happier with them and thier prformance. they will serve you well. you can run em hard and they will keep on gettin. flat top is a great choice, an i think that is a good deal and you should jump on it. i love the ar/m16/m4 platform.
