A co-worker has a SOCOM Mfg. billet lower receiver for sale for $250. I'm a total know nothing when it comes to AR's. Opinions? The picture I saw on the web site sure is pretty.
But at twice the cost, will it do anything more than a standard AR lower reciever from a reputable manufacturer? Nope. It does however rate very high on the "Neato...Cool Beans!" factor.
$250 sounds ok for a complete lower with a 2 stage trigger. The Socom Website priced the first run at $295.00. Any reason he wants less?
www.sableco.net offers Rock River Arms stripped lowers for $95
And if you want something "cool" stamped on your lower, there's always the RRA "US Property" marked forged lowers from Legal Transfers.(Pete in NH FFL/Dealer

Your "friend" is probably trying to sell this lower because he spent $295 for it and realized it wasn't worth the extra $195 it cost him, so he's trying to recoup some losses...
I've never had any of the problems out of my Bushmaster that this high priced lower "solves" , nor have I heard of any from friends Bushys or RRA's.
Thanks for the info folks. I sort of figured it was mostly "Gee-Whiz" factor but I do know a bit about machine work so the CNC and billet factors caught my eye. I had no idea as what the stresses would on an AR lower and if it was worth the extra $$$ for all of that WOW factor. Guess I'll pass.
