Ok, I understand the basics-

Dated mags 1994 and later are not pre ban.

Mags stamped leo/gov't/export are not pre ban.

I bought some nice, clean Okay mags with no date stamp on mag body or floorplate. Sold to me as "pre-ban". Since I live in Pennsylvania, it's not really an issue, but I wondered if these would be OK to own in New York or other states with a ban.

Are there any/many pre ban mags that are dated?

Thanks for the education!

You know, I'm not sure if govt contractors are required to put dates on magazines produced for the military at this point.

All mags produced between 94 and 04 were supposed to be stamped to identify them as post 94 mags.

If your mags are not stamped with a date, then I think that for all practical purposes, they can be considered pre-ban.

Edited to add: You didn't ask a stupid question. You asked a question about a stupid law. Who knows what the correct answer really is.

Unfortunately, the correct answer is whatever the prosecutor and jury decide it is...

That might not be quite accurate. Every mag I own was manufactured post September '04 (sunset of '94 AWB), some are date marked, some are not. So its entirely possible that a post-ban mag isnt date stamped.

So long as it is not marked and lacks any external feature that is unique to a post-ban mag, it is essentially pre-ban. Remember, followers and base-plates can be replaced, so they are not an indication of pre or post ban. Magazine bodies can technically be replaced too, but so as not to bend the rules too far, I'd just make sure that the bodies were pre-ban or at least look that way.
