AR owners (Edited with prejudice).

Hey guys,

I am the proud owner of a S&W mp-15 (first AR) for about a year. I like it and have had a 1000 rounds through it and runs like champ.

Now I want another AR just for the hell of it.

Money is not the main factor in the decision and I have narrowed it down to either the a:

Noveske N4 Light Recce VIS Switchblock 16"

or

LMT CQB MRP Defender Model Piston 16"

I may suppress it in the future and only will buy one of these two rifles.

What do you guys think is the way to go?

I am sure either of those top shelf rifles would be fine, but I have no room to speak on rifles that pricey.

<Edit:> Actually maybe I can help you. For your second AR I would really reccomend building one from scratch. you only have 1000 rounds thru your first AR, and building one from the bottom up is really a great experiance for someone to have. Especially at the beginning.

That would be my advice. It is a blast, seriously.

You can't really go wrong with either but I would go LMT.


But the cool-aid is damn good. I just put an LWRC M6A2 on a layaway.

For what I use it for (1000 rounds a year) I could probably get a bushy and be fine?

However I am going to get one of the two and wanted to get your (thehighroad's) advise.

I should build one form scratch and really get to know the system.

I will do that as well when I get some free time. But that is a great idea to. I guess I am still a newb. Ha

There's nothing wrong with buying a "top shelf" rifle. If you can pay for it, why not? People will give you flak anytime you buy something expensive/nice, like cars, shoes, clothes, watches, etc. Just ignore it.

Thanks Bovice, no hard feelings here As long as everyone on the board loves guns we should all be able to get along.

I would rather pay more at once. Get a quality product and not have to deal with any hassle.

Not that there aren't any other great AR's out there for cheaper like a Colt.

Colt is on the list but it is not at #1 yet if I saw a good colt at a gun show I would defiantly pick one up.

But I want an adjustable gas block AR right now.

I have and guess it deserves a second look! A sweet looking piece indeed.

LWRC guns seem to be great as well. However, i like how you can remove the lmt piston without removing the rail.

I've never shot the LMT but every LWRC I have shot has been the nicest AR's I have ever got my hands on.

Noveske or LMT is a great choice. But lose the piston. DI is fine for these rifles and will save you some cash for optice etc.
I really like LMTs upper DI models with the ambi safety, sopmod stock, 2-stage.

Or put a BCM or Noveske upper on a complete LMT lower for something custom.

If you're thinking about going the Title 2 route and getting a sound suppressor at some point, then you might want to consider a midlength over a carbine length gas system, and definitely don't skimp on quality (particularly of the bolt carrier group). Carbine length gas systems on a 16" barrel are hard on the bolt to start with, and AFAIK sound suppressors make that worse by greatly increasing the pressure dwell time. Midlength gas systems are a bit gentler, and I assume that would still hold true with a suppressor mounted.

True a middie for suppessed is a good idea. You can use an adjustable gas block to lesson gas flow.

You can also build you own Ar using a non reciprocating sidecharging upper reciever. No more oily glasses. I think they were called Asa or something.
