Need first-hand advice on buying a somewhat high-end AR-15

Yeah I looked at the Accupoints before... Maybe I'll look more at them again. I lots of time to worry about the optic later.

I plan to put rail covers on the side with the AFG I just didn't type that. I'll probably put ladders on but we'll see.

And yeah, those T-1s seem to dominate (probably cause they are so light) but there are also a fair amount of Trijicons, Eotechs, and other Aimpoints out there.

USMC why would he do any of that. he obviously wanted an AR. SKS isn't anywhere in the same ballpark as an AR and a M1A is a large, heavy weapon that doesn't do well in the role that an AR fills.

Actually if you are talking about getting an old colt SP1 I would agree, The Heavy barrel AR-15 defeats the entire concept of a light weight rifle. Might as well get a M1A if you are going to spend that kind of money, SKS Paratrooper with trigger job is just my personel choice.

Yeah I guess a 7 pound AR15 is nowhere as light as a 9 to 11 pound M1A or 8-9 pound SKS. The lightweight barrel vs heavy barrel in an AR is like an 8 ounce difference, BTW.

It's not a heavy barrel AR-15, hence the "light part". I appreciate your suggestion but I wanted an AR-15 or something similar. I liked the Noveske and wanted to get some opinions as I kept going back and forth between that and the KAC. I made up my mind. It's the Noveske 16" Light Recce LO-PRO. Next post should be me with picture of my new baby.

Thanks all.

since you said it might be a year before you get it, I'll close this now and spare everyone another SKS vs AR debate.

good luck with the AR and let us know how it turns out

I should point out that before I made this thread I was certain on the Knight's and then found myself flip-flopping between other guns such as the SCAR-17S, Noveske, and LMT. However, I would always find myself coming back to the KAC. Shortly after this thread ended, I decided that there was a reason I kept going back to the KAC and decided that that's what I want. Didn't look back and couldn't even if I wanted to. The hard part was done. Continuing saving for it was all I had left. Things went well and long and behold...

Got my first and only AR (well okay variant). Not the type who collects. I rather spend the little bit extra money and get what I want and use the heck out of it. Not much for collecting bunch of stuff when I can only use one at a time.

If I could only have one gun out of everything that is available on the market (even the autos. I prefer fast controlled semi shooting) it would be my KAC SR-15 E3. Soooo yeah. You could say I'm happy :D;)

ETA: Boy is it funny how things change. Re-reading this thread, I lol'd at my decision that I left this thread with. Anyhow, the rifle was decided right after this closed and has remain that way for the almost a year that it's been. All that is left is an EOTech XPS2-0 and VTAC sling. They can wait though as I'm in no rush. Aside from that, everything is set up the way I prefer (which is one of the main reason I chose the SR cause of the ambi, A2 grip, SOPMOD stock, included accessory pack, etc). I am using the KAC forgrip with a 6 RIB KAC panel in front and a 9 RIB panel on the left and right side. Even after the sight the rifle should be right at 8LBs which I wouldn't want anymore as I prefer light and functional.

Oh yeah love the 2 stage trigger. Already started nailing steel at 200M with the irons

My only two ARs are a Noveske N4 Light Recce and a KAC SR-15 upper on an LMT lower. The SR-15 is a little nicer, but I like the fact that the Noveske uses standard parts.

I'm keeping both.
