Just got a colt 6721 carbine.I was shooting with irons [the handle type].With the rear sight all the way down it was shooting about 6" high.Does that mean that I have to move the front sight up?I dont want to scope this rifle but just use irons.

Yes, its not a problem.
You just need to zero it correctly.

Set the rear sight all the way down with the 8/3 mark aligned.

Then move the front sight up to set the elevation zero.

After that, the rear sight elevation markings will be right for whatever range they are set on.

Ok,rear sight moved all the way down to 8/3 mark. Then moved the front sight all the way up [counter clockwise].Shot of the back porch at 50 yards, its about an 1" high.one question if the rear sight is now all the way down, there is no way to lower the point of impact if needed.

Yote, go to p.50 in this PDF of The US Army M-16 Marksmanship Manual to get illustrations of bullet trajectory and explanation of the 25 meter point blank zero.

This thread on arfcom has a quick comparison of the Military's official zeroing procedure compared to a few alternative zeroing procedures. The only alternative zero that has special instructions is the Santos IBSZ, and instructions / detailed explanation can be found here.

That's exactly where it should shoot at 50 yards with the rear sight set on 300.
