Ok everyone - I admit I'm slightly overwhelmed by the choices / recos made out there based on what I've read in searches and in other places.

I'm on my first AR build...looking for a 16" midlength flat top upper.

This will be mated to a RifleGear Aggressor Lower using a PSA MOE LPK.

Standard handguards are fine for now, although I will be doing rails in the future.

I'm looking to spend no more than $550ish give or take.

So far I thought I had made up my mind on the PSA upper...a deal at $429 I'm sure...but I'm wondering if it's better to pay a bit more for something else? Just wondering...

-RifleGear upper?
-LMT?
-BCM?

I also don't want to wait long...I'm ready to order this week and I don't want to wait several weeks for stuff to arrive. That might weed out those on backorder...

Fire away! I welcome all your thoughts.

You will not go wrong at all with PSA. I have used a good amount of their products in builds that I have done. Everything they have supplied has been built to a high quality spec and their fit and finish has been excellent. I am about to order a new upper from them to complete a lower that I am assembling this week.

BCM and LMT are both excellent choices as well. I have no experience with RifleGear.

I used a Del-Ton upper for my first build and am highly satisfied, as is my buddy who built the same rifle. I'm not familiar with PSA but the others you mention have very good reputations, some may say flavor of the month for BCM.......It is pretty hard to find a bad one as long as you stay away from the hokey one's that are pretty widely known to be junk. (Vulcan comes to mind.) Not sure if you living in California limits your choices or not.

I shooting buddy of mine just picked up a PSA 16" middy upper. The barrel is SS with a 1:8 twist and wylde chamber...for $429:) He topped it with a Vortex Viper 2-7x32 scope. It's a VERY nice combo. Granted, my buddies upper is the first (and only!) PSA upper I have handled/shot, but the build quality was very good.

No, me living in CA doesn't affect ability to purchase uppers. It's only the lowers they care about.

I heard RifleGear's uppers are rebranded Daniel Defense too.
