Well since I didn't feel like submitting a Form 1 for my braced Colt SMG clone, I decided to pin and weld a fake XM177 flash hider onto the barrel. With a 10.5" barrel, crush washer and fake flash hider, the OAL comes to 16 3/4" inches. I had to use a 1/8" end mill since there is not very much material between the threads and bore. I used a crush washer since I had extras handy and did not have the proper grenade ring.

This is my XM177 clone. Since it has a registered full auto lower receiver, I could have used any length barrel. I chose to use an over-16" barrel with a slip-over telescoping flash hider. (I can put the upper assembly on a semiautomatic lower with no problem.)

Unlike the original XM177's, the bayonet lug on this one is not ground off. In fact it can mount a bayonet just fine on the long flash hider.

It has an original Colt aluminum sliding stock.

That's a Sterling steel 40-round magazine. One of the few 40-rounders that's known to function flawlessly.

That came out nice. I built one similar almost 20 years ago but on a flattop upper. I swap between a carry handle and a red dot, depending on the mood that I am in.

I figured if I was going to go old school. might as well use a carry handle upper. I ended using a Fulton Armory 601upper receiver and a Rock River 10.5" 9mm barrel. Everything else to include lower and parts are from CMMG. The fake XM177 flash hider is from Kak Industries.

It has been accurate using the push/pull method with a sling so I should do better with an actual stock on it.

Looks good. I picked up a couple of those long flash hiders with the same thought in mind. Kind of shelved the idea and swapped out my pistol length uppers, altogether.
