Ar15 10mm

Real World

For me, hog and deer hunting is real world. Much more real world than most civilian owned AR platforms ever get used for.....

I see that they have mags in stock again. The price has gone up some though. I have wanted one for some time now but they didn't have mags. Now they have mags and I don't have a job. sucks to be me.

As far as "real world" goes, Welcome to the real world. I'm sure my 44 carbine will do just fine but , I want more rounds for more piggies.

Bad choice of words - real world - I live to hunt. I just see a small nich market. To get all the 10mm has to offer one has to reload. If not hunting use why a AR15 in a 10mm?

You know, if what you want is a "light, handy carbine," that looks and handles like an AR-15, I think you would be MUCH better served with a DPMS LR-308-T.

No reason to screw around with an oddball pistol-caliber upper that requires handloads to realize its potential (a potential that is WAY LESS than 7.62 NATO).

I agree. I would really love to have one (or any quality 10mm carbine for that matter), but not without easy access to decent mags. Personally, I think a 10mm carbine would be great for home defense.

Plenty of deer and hogs get killed with .223 every year. If that's not a legal option for you there's always 7.62x39, 6.5, 6.8spc etc. Any of those will be simpler (standard ar-15 DI style upper and normal size mags), more effective and likely cheaper overall.

Hell ya

10mm is one bad ass bullet hell of a lot better than most assult rifles with in 100m. A 10mm is like a .357 on steriods. Hell the guns on "Aliens" were 10mm

It would appear that H&K thought there was enough of a real world use for a 10mm carbine/subgun to build the MP5/10.

A 10mm AR style carbine would be great. However, the Oly arms product
is: 1. Poor quality 2. Overpriced 3. Incomplete (lack of good magazine}.
MSAR has been promising a 10mm carbine (the MCS) since the 2008 SHOT show.
I have and shoot a Mech-Tech CCU in 10mm for Glock, but it is not the same
as a quality AR style would be.

I also have a Mech-Tech unit but mine is for a 1911 type pistol -- I have mine set up for my hi-cap Para-Ordnance -- I use "twicked" .45acp mags and with Aroundo {sp?} mag followers get 16 rds. in a mag -- I also have a "frankenstien" mag a buddy made for me from cutting & welding two PO's mags together -- I get 25rds. in that one and use a Uzi or Sten mag spring in it.

Nope. Even the lowly 5.56 NATO has better terminal performance at range.

Nope. Ballistic twins.

Hell the guns on "Aliens" were 10mm

Actually, they were sheetmetal and platic laden Thompsons, and the 10mm round they describe was pure hollywood fabrication. Do not try to impress knowledge with "facts" from cinema.

The FBI did have some Thompsons converted to 10mm to do some testing.

I could be wrong, but I remember something about it.

Kanook --- yes , you are right that there were some Thompsons chambered in 10mm , I do not remember if it was for the FBI or not.

One time while I was working at a rifle range , two guys showed up about 15 min. before closeing --- I explained the fee was $25 for the day but that I had planned to do some IPSC practice after we closed to the public and they could stay and shoot by me where I could "watch" them. They were happy to agree and didn't start hauling out their gear till after I had closed the range and everyone else left ----- they then flashed LE badges and asked if they could run a few mags in full auto. I didn't have a problem with it and agreed.

One guy had a folding stock AK and the other guy had a H&K MP5 looking gun --- as I walked by , I noticed the mags were bigger/wider that any I had seen for a 9mm --- I asked " hey , is that a 10mm" ?? Guy said it sure was and I could shoot it if I wanted !!!! Well , it had a 3 rd. burst on it {didn't notice if it was full auto also } but I was able to put a 3 rd. burst with each trigger pull in the chest { A zone } on some IPSC cardboard targets at 50 yards EVERYTIME !!! He let me shoot about 200 rds. thru it as the way he put it , " I didn't pay for the ammo" ----- I want to say they were DEA but not sure.

That H&K was a HELLOF a gun !!! Zip for recoil , very accurate , and 100% reliable.

Moral of the story = it pays to be nice to people at the range !!!!!!

ummm, i wouldn't put too much stock in anything this fella has to say. see his other posts. serious X-Box commando.

edit: wouldn't it be like a .40S&W on steriods? :D

Why not just use a more normal 6.8spc Ar15???
nothing normal about the 6.8;)

I've got a 6.8spc and it's great.......... but I still have a need (purpose, use) for a 10mm carbine. And for the people that live in states that allow hunting with a pistol, revolver cartridge in a rifle it would be a good choice.

It's great coming out of a 1911 5" barrel, just think how much better in a 16 barrel.
