ARFCOM to me has always been full of kids, airsofters and general weekend, dirt shooting commandos. Are their good, knowledgeable members on there? Sure are. The problem is that there are 10,000 idiots drowning out the good posts.

M4C is setup for the professional shooter or civy's that are interested in having the most reliable gear for personal defense. The forum is also heavily geared towards training and knowledge sharing. It is also just about the only forum that Larry Vickers posts on. So basically, the signal to noise ratio is very low.

Well this one of those things that I want to ask but I'm not sure what is "proper" so I'm going to throw caution to the wind. My understanding is you are no longer welcome at ar15.com. The story I've heard relates to pricing agreements and other dealers. I believe those stories have come with a bias though. I'd like to hear something straight from you guys before I make up my mind on who is right and wrong.

Stay out of general discussion on ARf and you'll find all the technical knowledge you need on the subject.

You are correct. We and the owners of ARFCOM no longer do busines.

99% of what you have heard about what happened on the forum was incorrect. About the only part of it was true was that a dealer (who was also a Staff member running a business on the down low) and I had a falling out SEVERAL YEARS before it was ever brought out.

It is really water on the bridge and I have moved on. My opinion of ARFCOM is the same now as it was then. I would call up Juan and his Father all the time and discuss the negative direction the forum was headed. At that time, I was trying to make ARFCOM a more technical discussion forum and keep some of the real experts from leaving the forum. I didn't get anywhere.

G&R:

If you don't mind me asking, what happened?

Also, Is it your opinion that the sponsors have considerable influence?

To be honest Matt King, it was more than 2yrs ago and I would really hate to go down that ugly road again.

Site sponsors play a HUGE roll (as do the staff members). As they say, money talks.....

C4

Yeah man no problem.

Do you think that the site sponsors have negative influence?

Yes. Anytime the owners of a forum take the majority of their salary from said forum, money (large site sponsors) will always have their way.

To find a good forum, I would look and see if the owners live off the advertising dollars. Case in point, THR owners most likely make little to nothing off of this forum. Good sign that this is a quality forum.

I have never been on M4Carbine.net, but I have been on Arf.com. I find arf.com to be completely unusable, unless you do what percy.shelly suggests:
Anyway, if you have a tech, and especially an AR-15 tech question burning in your head, typing "site:ar15.com" followed by the relevant search parameters is a pretty good way to scratch the itch. Google will actually go some distance into the archives there, and if you're just lurking the forums without an account you can't search or even skip back to those in most cases. Also, since you're using a search engine with specified technical terms, you'll solve a lot of the signal/noise problem.
Seriously? There's a lot of serious knowledge over there, drowning in a river of BS. The google search engine cuts through a lot of the crap.

as stated previously, they both are ban happy, if you disagree and or make a stand for someone they don't like it's good bye, sayonara, hasta la vista, and don't let the door hit your rear end on the way out.

GRTactical we need to talk:banghead:

M4C is not any more ban happy than any other forum. The difference with M4C is that they actually enforce their listed rules.

Arfcom is an encyclopedia of AR knowledge, but you need to go to the technical forums to access it.

Evaluating Arfcom's utility in the knowledge department by the content of the "GD" area (General discussion for non-arfcommers) is akin to rating the content of your local library by the number and type of homeless bums hanging out in it.

I've been around the internet for 14 years now and Arfcom has more information about the AR system than any site I've ever found. You won't be disappointed unless you're looking for AR info there in the GD.

I enjoy the GD forum there for its humor and the occasional nugget of info.

Technical forums are located under anything but General.

John

ETA: It's also hands-down the largest firearm site by membership.

Well-said.

Stick to the tech forums and you will avoid 99% of the "noise" everyone is griping about -- the GD shenanigans are not tolerated for long in the tech forums.

that is so true, it scores 10, 10X's, that goes double for TOS, "The Other Site".

there are others but they are man enough and have the decency to talk to you first, are more tolerant of a simple little screw up, plus they do not have the internal "politics" those other sites do and the old, "if i do not like your friend.., i don't like you either", their mods on both sites carry personal grudges, and for GAWDS sake never say anything negative about the NRA. :D

:neener: please, don't force me post my ROFLMFAO icon, maybe you should consider going into a career in comedy :neener:

If that was for me, please post whatever icon you see fit  -- it won't change the fact that AR15.com has a tremendous wealth of knowledge for anyone willing to avoid GD and filter out the "Is too!/Is not!" noise (just like you have to do on any discussion board, this one included).

I have learned more useful firearms-related things there over the years than I could enumerate here, and I have made some very good friends besides -- including ones I now shoot with locally each year. YMMV. :)

ar15 certainly has more knowledgeable posters, you just have to wade through a bit more BS to find it. Also the search on ar15 is terrible, which doesn't help.

However, with the size of ar15, what the Owners have accomplished is nothing short of incredible. I've managed some very large forums, and getting them to run consistenly fast and develop new pieces for them is no small task. And the layout is very user friendly, it's one of my favorite forums to use ... same can't be said for m4carbine

I have found M4carbine and this site a lot more friendly. AR15.com has lots of information to offer and lots of topics. Much of the information on AR15 is regurgitated without any experence but that probably holds true for any forum.

I prefer M4C.net to (B)Arf.com.
I used to post on AR15.com WAY back before it went commercial, now I still post a bit but not often.

I prefer my info to come from people who have a proven track record. M4C is full of people who depend on these weapons every day to get them through. They don't sugar coat things and they don't play into the whole tacticool nonsense. I joined and asked a lot of questions. I stated my uneducated opinions and they corrected me where I was wrong.

They have made me a better shooter not because they convinced me that one type of Weapon or accessory is better, but because they made me re-evaluate how I look at shooting and the gear I use. That thought process has extended itself to training and tactics as well.

Iraqgunz, Grant, Katar, F2S, etc are some of the best I have seen around and I trust them when they talk about things.

Question asked and answered, and we're far too close to forum wars for my comfort. That means that it's time to move along....
