Lets see if I can explain my question without any pictures.
I am going to mount a UTG foregrip on an AR that does not have a rail. I bought a rail and a foregrip. My question is on mounting the rail. On the plastic forearm pieces there is a metal plate. I was told to take the metal plate out and mount the rail then put the metal back in. That did not work because there is not enough room to get the metal back in the plastic forearm with the screws and flat nuts that mount the rail. I do not want to leave it out with the big words DO NOT REMOVE.
Any opinions or ideas?? I could mount the rail using the screws and nuts over top of the metal. Would that hurt anything. I am just trying not to screw anything up.

You could try cutting the heat shield with tin snips where its in the way. Just enough to get clearance is all you need. I've done that on a couple of AR's and never had any troubles. As long as the bolt doesnt touch the barrel you should be OK. I wouldnt leave the heat shield out though.

Mine fit fine. Get a different rail kit, one with flat nuts that are thin and contoured to fit the curve of the heat shield.

I'm not Shure where to find it But there is a "3 rail unit" that screws on to the hand guards, top or bottom. That would enable you to mount your Forgrip way easier, al you will need is a Philip's Screw driver
