AR15 Grip Question

Uptade:

As promised, here’s an update on the Reptilla grips.
I ended buying 3 of them, Black, FDE and Field Drab (dark brown) its 3.5" nigh and it weights 1.9oz, very compact, it doesn’t have the ubber coating the magpul has but the texture feels very good.

I’ll place this grip right between the Magpul MOE and K series, with a US Palm/TangoDown kinda feel.
Overall a very good grip for light builds and pistols/pdw since the grip angle is great for it. I use Large gloves and this grip just perfect with the flared pinky. They also came with the installation screw and washer and a nice Reptillia Sticker :D

Nice! I may snag one of these. I am looking at the magpul without the beaver tale. Its super upright angle also. I have meaty hands but short fingers lol! But yea I have the standard magpul grip on my Aero AR10 and when you grip it right it puts your trigger finger way down below the trigger lol.

I wear xl gloves and sort of like the reptilia grips. They are small, but it's not that big a deal. I actually just transitioned from the magpul "k2-XL" grip to these. The size difference in the pic is slightly affected by perspective, but not much.
They make more sense when paired with 20rd mags.

I say it’s the Glock 19 of grips, not too small, not to big, not too slim.

They are very small.
But perfect ergonomics should not be a sole factor to everyone, either.

It's a grip and on an AR has no other real function, why wouldn't you change it out until you have as prefect ergonomics as you can get?

After trying a heap of different grips I am running MOE + on all my AR's it is the only thing common across all my AR's.

Preferring K2+ over MOE+ on most builds lately. Not going around replacing however.

Because grip ergonomics are just not THAT important. The overwhelming majority of rifles that have seen combat have done so with some cheap plastic (or wood) clunky weird-angled grip. Grip-to-hand fit is far less important than proper optic and stock fit, in my opinion.

Yeah but a grip is $20 or less and one screw to install.

I would also argue that grip ergonomics can make a big difference. The ability to repeatable address the trigger in the same way with comfort makes a difference to accuracy in time critical shooting. In my experience this is a bigger effect in handgun shooting but with a carbine can have a noticeable impact.

That's fair. In the context of this thread I am defending the non-ergonomic advantages of an extra-small grip, which are even more niche than comfort advantages: The rifle fits more easily in one of those small sbr cases because of this grip.

Grip is just as important as optics and stock, The grip should fit your hand size as best as possible, same as the stock should match the platform and the optic the task the rifle is intended for. Can you do by with a A2 Grip and A2 carry handle? Sure you can GI did it for years, but if you cant really tell the difference then you don’t use one for living or carry one 8 hours a day. However there are higher priorities to address before the grip but as you mentioned, in a pdw or small form factor and weight saving , grips should always be considered.
