Gents:

Just bought a nice stripped lower and am asking for recommendations on a standard lower parts kits. I'm not looking for high end stuff, just a basic quality parts kit. I don't mind spending a little coin, but I don't want to get suckered in to paying an extra $30 for a name brand that isn't much better than other offerings. So what are your recommendations?

I see that PSA has quite a line up of LPK's. Their "Classic" LPK is going for about $69. What's the skinny on that? Thanks!

That's probably about normal. The only thing to consider, is if there are any parts you want that aren't standard? Go to brownells.com and order their free AR parts catalog. All kinds of stuff you never knew you needed until you saw it in there.

KAK Industry LPK is the best LPK I've ever installed and I've put together quite a few ARs.

I just recently put together a LPK in a PSA blem lower. It was from Anderson with stainless hammer and trigger, rolled spring pins, brass detents, and came out with a good trigger pull with little creep. Much better than the Brand name kit I bought three years ago, that needed a trigger adjustment screw to clean it up. This one is almost comparable without it.

$39.

Like a lot of things, what Brand it is may not get you your money's worth. The stainless parts are die cast apparently, same as many others, but it did not have any grinding or clean up on the sear engagement surfaces. They were smooth and the release is, too.

The only downside is it came with the usual A2 grip.

Standard LPK

I used a CMMG lower parts kit in my last build, a DPMS stripped lower, because it was all I could find at the time. The quality was very good, packaged well. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one.

Daniel defense. About 15 dollars more, top quality, and comes with a magpul enhanced trigger guard.

I've put together enough "low end" LPK to firmly say except for the hammer and trigger there is not a lot that "high quality" can actually do but lighten your wallet. I sure don't understand how the trigger guard needs "enhancing", but perhaps our Alaskan brethren could explain.

I prefer the LPK without hammer and trigger so I don't waste money on parts to be replaced, but I've made plenty of DPMS, CMMG and other "no-name" hammer and triggers have a nice ~6lb pull that I am happy with for field use after a little stoning of the engagement surfaces.

The enhanced trigger guard is nice if your wearing gloves. Some people shoot outdoors during the winter.

I'm not sure how this would be nicer than using the original as it was designed -- to rotate out of the way for use with thick gloves or mittens. Thats why the front side is a spring loaded pin.

How do you remove the pin to make it rotate. I always thought they were fixed once they were installed.

I see looked it up and I see what your talking about. To me though I like just having it ready and not having to have something on me to push that pin. It's like everything else on an ar, it's all about personal preference.

Pushing it in with the tip of a bullet usually works, odds are you have one of these with you :)
Although some JSP and JHP rounds bight be too blunt, the XM193 is pretty much what it was made for.

DON"T buy the ptac lower parts kit from PSA. it's not good. The classic should be fine though. Stag also makes a pretty good kit.

https://www.classicfirearms.com/ar15-lower-parts-set-complete-by-del-ton is a decent price.

but I think you should be looking for a lower build kit. Those include the buffer tube assembly and stock. http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/15071/ for example.
I am curious what problems you've had with the PTAC kit. Care to share?

The factory trigger on my Stag was excellent, when I bought my lower I got a deal on an Anderson LPK, and it had just as nice of trigger although a bit heavier.

the parts were just kind of rough. Particularly the disconnector. It was not square across the front and was covered with rough casting marks. The trigger bar had casting marks and lines as well, and the detents were rough and needed a polishing. Other finished effect was a pretty rough and gritty trigger pull. Even for a stock AR. I was just not impressed.
