AR15 Stock advice needed please

I need advice on buying an AR15 stock. Since moving to the peoples republik of NJ, I can’t have the collapsible stock on my AR, and having sold my stock223 upper, I basically am left with a lower receiver. I have decided to get a 6.5 Grendal upper from Alexander Arms for the top half. Now I need a stock. I really like the Magpul stock, but $250.00+ S/H… OUCH. Is it worth it? Where else can I find a good stock in that style?

Which particular MagPul stock are you looking at? You can't use the adjustable ones, right?

If you want a) affordable b) fixed c) durable d) cool, then check out ACE's skeleton stocks. Bonus: the short/entry one works as its own rear tube, so that saves you from having to buy a carbine buffer tube. Not sure on the full-size one.

I had one and liked it considerable. The shorter one is as short as a fully-collapsed M4 stock, but you can change out different thicknesses of rubber buttpad for a different LOP.

I have the ACE Skeleton stock on one of my Bushmasters and love it. Mine's a full size and it used the full length buffer tube (had to go check the pictures to remember). Also, have fun with the neoprene sock that fits over it, but be ready for a lot of grunt work.

I had a 6 position stock , I just switched back to the full A2 stock. I figured I used the adj stock extended all the way all the time and the full stock makes the rifle balance better for me.

I recommend the Sully stock. I dislike collapsing stocks and prefer Sully to all the fixed stocks out there. YMMV.

That's the Magpul PRS - reportedly a very nice stock. I have the Magpul M93 and it is indeed the most solid collapsible stock out there; Magpul makes some good stuff.

The only thing that could concern me about the PRS is that the buttplate doesn't appear to drop. In order for me to get a proper cheeckweld without significantly craning my neck to use sights at the 'normal' height -or- having the buttplate sitting directly on the bony part of my shoulder, I need about an inch to an inch-and-a-half of drop at the heel.

I made a relatively inexpensive stock setup for a couple of my AR15-pattern rifles using an entry buttstock, a 1" extender, and a SPR adjustable butt plate.



The nice thing about the SPR buttplate is that the rubberized pad is a lot nicer to my bony shoulders than the traditional cheesegrater hard buttplates, especially when shooting my 150gr and 174gr 7.62x39 loads....

thanks for the input. The cheek piece is adjustable if I recall correctly, so cheekweld should not be an issue. I like it, I just don't know if it is worth the $250. I think when coupled with a 6.5 grendal upper, it would be a sweet package.

I'm looking for detailed NJ gun laws reguarding what you can and can't have on post ban ar15 style rifles. I can't find anywhere that a collapsable stock is prohibited? Also what is the max magazine capacity we can have? I always thought 10, but I just read 15....confusing.

Lastly, what is the law on barrel length? 14" 16"?

Federal law limits the barrel length to 16" without the $200 tax. You can have a 14.5" barrel as long as it has a 1.5" flash hider on it. In NJ, who knows. I recommend moving .
