I've decided on buying a Mossberg 590A1, manufacturer's number 51517, which is the 18.5 inch heavy barrel, plain synthetic stock and ghost ring sights. I am hoping it comes with the receiver drilled and tapped for a Weaver style base that I can mount a scope on for slugs or a flashlight later. Their web site though doesn't say if it IS drilled and tapped from the factory. Anyone know please? Thanks, Don.

If it has a ghost ring it is drilled and tapped.
Weaver makes a long plate and there are several "Picatinney" slotted plates available including one from Mossberg.

Thank you so very much. I was hoping that was the case, and knowing that I can exchange the ghost ring sight for optics should I desire solidifies my decision to purchase one when they again become available. My LGS says their distributors are out of stock at present. Thanks again. Don

yeah, maybe it was mr. biden's comments, but it seems panic buying has also infected HD shotty's. I can't find a 590 for sale anywhere, and if I can it's nowhere near reasonably priced.

I have a 590A1 18.5" heavy barrel, bead sight, speedfeed stock. It came drilled and tapped for a mount. I think all the 590A1s are.

I have a 500 MilsGun which is the U.S. Military version of the civilian 590A1 6 shot 18.5" barrel version.
It did not come drilled and tapped & I don't think any of the military guns ever were.
