Are Big Bore Revolvers the Answer to the Crunch?

I enjoy shooting big bore. Have two wheel guns that handle 45 ACP and one that handles 9mm. Shoot 45ACP and 9mm since the supply of brass is unending. One will also handle 45LC and the other 357 but not much of that brass on the range.

Next Big Bore? does .40 or greater qualify?

I'd llike to pick up a S&W Model 610 for
the 10mm Auto / .40 S&W but they tend to
get bid up on gunbroker of late. Seems
the S&W Model 58 in .41 Magnum 4: Bbl. &
with fixed sights is one of the only N-frames post WWII
that was built without the W&E adj. rear sight.

It would make more sense to have the next bog bore revolver
to be something in .45 Colt to go with my Marlin
1894 lever gun in .45 Colt.

It so happens that I just went back to revolvers. A S&W Mountain Revover in .44 Mag. in particular.
Brass to the face from a $1,000 auto did it this time.
Plan on reloading for the MG. Should have a decent stash by spring.

I've got a Mtn. Gun in 45 Colt too and love it. I gave up reloading a few years ago but it is time to start again or win a lottery.

Posting a month late,an a dollar short. LOL..

Big bore "Wheelgun" for home defense? Yeah.. That'll sure do the trick alrighty. No question about it. My current pet that I usually keep in easy arms reach is 4" redhawk in .45 colt. Mycurrent HD loads for it are 300gr hornady xtp bullets behind 21.4 grs of H110 ignited by CCI 350 primers. All I can say about those loads. Is "impressive"! Some of the bullet's I've recovered from soft sand mushroom perfectly to nearly 1". Needless to say this maybe something bordering on overkill. And the firearm just in it's self could potentially avert any trouble. Any semi-sane miscreant getting a quick look at that gaping maw, some of us refer to as a muzzle. Should surely be on the way out. Just as fast as his legs can carry him. But generally I believe I would probably shoot first. (Let the court sort it out later.) As I would not likely be in the mood to see I could survive a shot from some gangsta's 9mm. No-one bothers me though.. And I have no enemies to worry about either. And I've never yet had an angry Grizzly Bear come charging down the hall. But better safe than sorry I always say. LOL..

Better off to use COWBOY loads in that Redhawk because of the noise indoors with no time for ear protection. That alone will be bad enough but at least subsonic. It doesn't really take that much to drop an invader without armor. It might not make as good a story though.

Yeah I know... I'd be deaf for days!! Again I'm workin' on some cowboy loads now. A friend brought me a box o' 250# 250gr remington swagged lead bullets. I wasn't going to use them because the box says .455 dia. But after measuring some of them. Front band .451,middle band .452-.453,and the last band being .450-.451. I decided that I'd give them a whirl.. Real light powder charges std preasure or maybe a little more. I really love that gun!!! Firing std factory loads is a kin to shooting a .22 I love it..

The only problem I have with cowboy loads is keeping them. I'll squeeze some together or someone will bring me a bag full. And I go shooting.. While the real heavy loads I tend to not want to shoot quite so often.
