I sold my M1 Garand and bayonet to a California buyer, but my dealer refused to ship the bayonet. He told me that bayonets are not legal in California, to which I replied I thought only permanently-affixed bayonets (such as on the Yugo SKS) were illegal. Who is right?

Gordon Fink Bayonets are not illegal in California.

dmckean44 There's no california law against bayonets.

Yeah, that's not confusing! :scrutiny:

wellll I can guess why he might think that

the lug which holds a bayonette can be considered an evil feature and thus make yer gun illegal....you know, all those drive by bayonetting that was cured by PRK's AWB...

edited to add...I was wrong again!...boy! don't you ever let me rep fer you in court buddy!

Bayonet lugs are fine in California too. They were only illegal during the federal ban.

Bayonets and their lugs have ZERO relevance to any CA gun laws.

I am continually amazed that people continue to confuse an expired Federal law with California's AW laws.

I'm amazed anyone understands CA's firearm laws. It isn't surprising that companies refuse to ship items, including non-firearm items, into CA simply because of the hassle in determining if it is legal. Look at a recent issue of Shotgun News or even one of the flyers from Inter Ordnance or other dealers. 90% of the items are stamped "Not for Sale in CA".

sorry Bill

I really thought that (to be an "assault weapon") a bayonette lug was on the list of CA evil features, like detachable mags and pistol grips...

Please don't hate me Bill! I will need a good lawyer if I move back to cali...

Why, I heard even dreaming of evil black rifles were agin PRK law...:neener:

If the DOJ can't figure it out, how is a college dropout supposed to?

With a few exceptions (see California AG's web page), it isn't that difficult. It seems more the fear of what may happen with further laws or court cases that draws companies to impose much tighter restrictions than (mostly ridiculous) California law requires.

BTW, if any of such companies are reading this thread, be aware that those policies are contributing to the Dark Side. I can't argue that it is not prudent, given how squirrely things are in this state.

Just don't CARRY/USE the bayonet...that will be illegal.
Actually, it might be - carrying fixed-blades concealed on your person, or in your carried articles, is illegal. Open carry is fine, carry in your vehicle is fine.

I think Alice in Wonderland may be the book of rules for the California Legislature.
