Are Gun Owners In The Majority ?

I'd like to think we are in the majority, but stats do not prove it that way. Then those that do own, how many are sheep? It's a good thought.

My grandfather was a gun owner. He had several shotguns in a nice gun cabinet in the basement, and during his entire life from the time I was born to the time he died I don't think they ever came out of that cabinet. My uncle, who never hunted at all to my knowlege, took them one day and I don't know what ever happend to them.

I wonder how many other people in America fall into that catagory of gun ownership?

gun ownership

I think you waste your time on this debate.statistics dont mean a thing.before ww2 is when I grew up.there were more guns than you can imagine.almost every household had a gun.not for hunting. If you live in New York are you going to admit you have a gun.Mass put in an increase in fees in1998.out of
1,500,000 licensed gun owners there are now 200,000.NOW WHAT DO YOU DO WITH YOUR STATISTICS.I recently had a nabor woman asked me to fix daddys gun[she is 60]I took it and it was a Forehand and Wadsworth 38S&W cal.F&W was before 1900.oiled it and it works fine.I find all kinds of guns here and they are not REGISTERED because you dont have to.all you have to know is how many were built since cartridge days and you will find there is so many you would not belive.H&R,IVER Johnson,Hopkins and Allen made millions.and there were many others.not even to count the rifle makers.plus there are other guns by the thousands that I will not discuss.dont go by the polls, very few if any count more than a few and then guess that such is true. ITS NOT. ( the atf keeps records since 1968 of manufacterers production.):uhoh::rolleyes::(

Guns make great Christmas gifts. If you have family that is unarmed, start there. Even if it is a single shot shotgun or a milsurp that you picked up for less than $100. Let's get more people taking responsibility for their home defense and thinking of themselves as gun owners.

I thought about giving a single shot shotgun or some other cheap but effective firearm as a gift but I'm not so sure how well that would go over. I think that some of my family think I'm nuts because I own two long arms. My brother even brought up the "you are 40 times more likely to kill yourself when there is a gun in the home" or whatever nonsense that was spread by the anti-gun crowd. Makes me wonder if my brother thinks I'm suicidal.

I think I'll need to work on them some more before I go out and buy them a gun. I do intend on buying a youth rifle in the future to train my nieces and nephews with, and if I should happen to find Mrs. Farmboy in the future and have children of my own. I don't know how my brothers and sisters would feel about me taking their children shooting so I will only do so with their permission.

Just because someone owns a gun doesn't mean they are on our side. If I were to give a certain brother a shotgun I doubt he'd refuse it but I do think that it would sit unused in it's box for a very long time. He'd probably take it out of politeness but the wife may sell it off or have it destroyed.

It's difficult to convince him and his wife of the need for home defense with a police officer quite literally across the street. I do think that giving firearms as gifts is a good idea, but one must measure up the recipient to determine if such a gift would be used or appreciated.

IA farmboy,

I see your point and I understand that just giving someone a gun won't mean they are on our side. My original suggestion for gifting guns was to people who we know will appreciate it. In your case, your brother and particularly his wife probably won't appreciate it. But that doesn't mean they never will. Don't think so much about taking their kids shooting until you've had a chance to take them shooting. Talk to them about home defense. Ask your brother if he is honestly willing to abandon his responsibility as protector of his family because he thinks his neighbor could do it better. I believe you can get them to the point where they will appreciate it when you give them a gun.
