Are guns your passion?

Every time I retire (twice) I get so busy I just go back to work.
I think I need some lessons from you!! :)

My dad and my neighbor (1st cousin) both retired this year. One from logging, and one from being a supervisor in my company.

Both work twice as much now as they did when they worked. Lol. They both took 6 months or so and only fed and did their chores and such. But eased back into to helping family members in their own careers. Everything from flagging for one cousins road crew to my dad driving a truck for another cousins excavating. And either one can be found at my shop watching us work on cars pretty often. I think it's a "getting out of the house" thing.

Excellent, not only good taste in bikes, but in a wife as well.

My collection was only ever as large as five, now down to two. A Kaw W650 for the road, and a small Yamaha XT225 for on/off road riding.

To keep this gun related, I've learned through a bad experience not to carry when riding.

I learned from experience how to carry. Or at least how not to. I layed down an R1 after hitting a rock in the road busted a rim. Had a Beretta in a shoulder holster. Gun and holster were fine (Galco jackass I think but could have been a Gould and Goodrich) but I broke several ribs on the gun.

I think it's great to have more than one hobby/ passion. When one gets old you can jump ship. Keep your stuff and you can always pick back up. Ive bounced from car restoration and building to bikes to guns to billiards to reloading to building chain saws and back many times.
Other than the chain saws and selling a little wood none were cheap. Lol.

I generally eat sleep and breath guns. I carry a gun. But long before I started carrying a gun, guns was pretty much all I thought about. I read about them, I watch movies about them, I go to stores that sells them, just to look at them. I come on this gun forum to talk about them. I take my guns out just to admire them. I read about the history of their development, and the companies that made them. I reload and cast as an extension of my passion.

I do have other things of interest. Scrabble, reading, knives, camping, hunting, yardsales, cast iron, woodworking. The reading, camping, yardsaling, and hunting all fall into the gun category.

My wife says I have no life other than guns, that I’m obsessed. I’m fascinated by them that’s for sure, and they are my only real interest; my passion.

It’s not any different than a car guy who eats sleeps and breaths cars. My uncle was like that. He spent all his time and effort doing car stuff. From building hot rod cars, racing them, to reading and collecting car magazines, watching nascar. Society views the car guy as normal, and the gun guy as a nut though.

So do others here share the passion? Or are guns just a tool to you, or somewhere in between?

My Passions include God, my wife & family.
My interests include playing music, train collecting, shoot & hunting, and doing stuff outdoors with my wife.

As far as my most valued material possessions go a gun would probably be one among them...

For me it's Jesus, family, then guns.
My wife banned me from playing Scrabble. I spent too much time reading a thesaurus as a kid when I was sitting in class.

God and family come first for me too, I figure everyone would know those are first. But I know people who’s life is defined by video games, and that’s more important than god or family to them so I see how it could come off that way.

Below is the inside of my vault room. My handguns are in drawers, not shown in the pictures, I love firearms. I started collecting as a preteen. I got my first firearm when I was 11. My Grandfather gave me his Winchester model 61. I have added many over the years. I enjoy shooting and collecting. I collect firearms just like others collect coins or stamps. Firearms have always been my passion, 81CACF5F-25CB-43F9-B8C5-D5478A82BCC1.jpeg E73B468F-F853-43F1-A43A-38D3AA482DB0.jpeg

were’s all the AR’s and M1A’s???? nice collection

My personal preference in firearms is smokeless sporting weapons, so I was pleasantly surprised.
I like all gun! from Cartel Bling, country boy single shot, 80’s tech 9’s, German weird stamping guns!, chinese guns the chinese can’t get! Nice Wood shotguns! LOVE THEM ALL!

I built one with a 20” barrel, carry handle, one piece stock! Love the look! wish I could get a real A2!
Don’t we all!

Since I’m a large person, that A2 rifle felt good in my hands; plenty of hand guard length, but a carbine feels like a toy.

Passion for guns? Ever since I was eleven years old or so; starting some time in the early fifties I've been avidly interested in firearms of all persuasions. I have no idea how or why I developed this obsession over time. Nobody in my family is even remotely so inclined-and sometimes I envy them.

How much money does meditation take?

Haha, I could have broken my post into things that get more money and things that get more time rather than lumping them together. Meditation falls into the "more time" category. I've tried a few apps out and I believe the current one runs about $100 / year.

Guns, mostly historical and I have a passion for european double guns. Pocket knives (mostly stag handle), rock collecting/hounding (mostly rocks that I find while hunting in the desert), Bird hunting with me trusty GSP and brother, I read a lot about the South West, Mountain Men, and Native American tribes of the SW, Fine watches, Grilled meats, pizza and wine are but some of my passions and interests. Lastly, but not the least; spending time with family, life is short.

<snip>
This pretty much describes the first 50 years of my life … however the millennial experts on most forums of social media have convinced me I am stupid and they know all there is to know … even though they have little to no actual experience, they’ve researched it all. For instance I’ve been told that my Tavor isn’t shootable without a fancy $500 trigger, replacing the hand guard and sight rail and butt pad and other aftermarket parts.
Also that every long gun NEEDS a light, a sling and a 4 pound trigger, let’s not forget 1,000 rounds of ammo for every gun you own and 99% of the time they’ve never even shot in any kind of formal competition … but they’ve researched it on the internet.
So, most of the time I keep my opinion to myself and don’t try to correct them … let them make their own mistakes.

I’d say I’m deeply interested in them, for a range of reasons from history and military to self defense and collectibility. I do have a lot of other passions too though: music, travel, outdoors, history, etc.
