Are "haters" good for this forum?

What I mean is not someone that hates guns or someone that hates certain guns just because but someone that will post negative comments about a gun that they have owned because it did not perform as expected.

It seems as if any negative comment is looked apon poorly. I value the negative comments as long as they are based on fact and experience. For someone that has never owned a Glock (for example) to say that they are junk is worthless. If they say why they don't like Glocks and give specific examples of times a Glock has failed to perform the task it was asked of it, then I read with interest.

If I am looking to buy a gun and there are no negative comments about it, I get worried. You know every gun has some flaw. I just want to know what the flaws tend to be so I can decide if I can live with them. Certain guns get more than their share of positive and negative comments by overly emotional critics. The 1911, Glocks, CZ-75 and Makarov come to mind. Some people love them and will flame you if you have a negative comment about their favorite pistol and some people hate them more than you can trust.

I say, keep the well thought out and fact based negative comments flowing! This is why I read these forums and have given up on the gun rags. You will seldom see anything negative about any gun in a gun rag because they don't want to offend their sponsers by the truth! If you get a gun that is a POS, let us know so we don't spend our hard earned money on a gun that could be a lemon. If it is one negative comment and 1200 positives, I can assume that it is a decent gun but if the comments are running 50%-50%, I will probably not waste my money on it.

Thanks for listening to my rant of the day.:D

I think rather than ''haters'' ... (tho there may be a few!) . I'd use instead ''detractors''.

I also like to see a balanced appraisal of any piece .. the good, the bad and even the ugly! But ....... presented objectively rather than emotionally ... just solid opinion backed up by a description of faults, breakages, malfunctions etc. Oh and .. any remedial action taken if at all.

I guess with gun makes we individually adore ... then there can be an attempt to ''rush to defence'' of an example of something we cherish and find near perfect..... if it is being criticized. However, as long as said criticism is and remains objective I have no probs.

So .... ''detractors'' ..... they are just fine .... ''haters''? .... not necessarily!!:p

I’ve learned from various gun boards that all guns by all manufacturers are worthless junk. Glocks explode. Model 1911s don’t work. SIGs rust. I shouldn’t even mention guns by “communist,†“traitor,†“cult,†or “junk†manufacturers!

People like to complain. I’ll continue to take it all with more than a few grains of salt.

Polite discourse is always encouraged here including remarks that detract from a particular gun.

BTW, I opened a S&W revolver that had a feather in the action. I've no idea whether the deputy ever visited a chicken farm or had a down pillow. My brother's Remington 700 receiver came with the scope base holes offset. I've seen a Llama copy of the 1911 with a sear that disintegrated (sintered perhaps?). I've had a Ruger revolver that had a barrel that was offset (not screwed in all the way). Mauser HSc that jammed.

Don't get me started on aftermarket products.

Ah, I remember with nostalgia the great WildRomanian threads of yore...

i wouldnt consider someone a hater unless they constantly bash a certain firearm or manufacturer.

but

if someone just states a negative experience they had with a gun then there is nothing wrong with that. not everything will work perfectly and not everyone will be happy with what they buy.

I am a "hater". I hate it when a firearm doesn't go BANG!. Click is NOT what I bought it for. I have had POJ firearms from all the big manufacturers. I have had sleepers from foreign manfacturers. I enjoy a day at the range when everything works. It increases my trust in my CCW on the street. I am pleased when I hit the target. I am confident I can hit the game when hunting. If I have had a turkey, POJ firearm I keep it to myself. When I get two in a row of the same model, I tell everybody!

what bug me are the people who pull a gun out of the box without fieldstripping, cleaning, and inspecting it beforehand, have problems, get angry and post about it online, and then don't send it in to get fixed.

Unfortnately, there are numerous gunwriters who have a love affair with one and only one type of handgun or long gun, and continously condemn all other types. There is at least one well known writer that believes that only one type of handgun model and type is worth owning, and not only condemns the other guns, but makes very derogatory and sarcastic comments about people who own them.

I would hope that high Road types can see through these guys, and not parrot their drivel.

Haters?? You mean that SOME people on this board have been drinking that new sport drink "HATERAID"???:D :D

AHH but to the question...If everyone agreed then this board would be nothing more than Glocktalk...Disagreement is at times, refreshing and at other times, just down right FUN TO WATCH...as long as it doesnt involve personal attacks...

Blind loyalty to any product, without admiting that it has at times failed, irks me...Always has, always will...

I am in the process of having my webmaster set up my own message board, I hope that it is run as smoothly as this one, and not some of the others that I have visited...

AHH and in closing, before I do the "shameless selfpromotion" thing, I will say this to all.....in the immortal words of B-Rad..DONT BE HATIN!!!!:D

The CHIMERA is coming...

4V50 Gary,

My brother's Remington 700 receiver came with the scope base holes offset.

They all do. ;)

Remington couldn't drill a straight row of holes if their lives depended on it. :scrutiny:

(...and Ruger milled the bases on my No.1's quarter rib off-kilter.)

I'm a hater, alright: all guns suck. If someone thinks their [insert brand here] was "perfect" out of the box, it says more about their expectations than it does about the gun. :uhoh:

I've got no problem with Haters, as long as they have a flipping clue what they are talking about. The people that drive me nuts are the ones who talk down about stuff that they don't really know anything about other than they read a magazine review once.

Bountyhunter, last time I checked there wasn't a huge wall keeping anybody in. :)

Wild Romanian wasn't kicked off of the board for his dubious gun opinions or for creating a "stir", there was more to it than that, and since the reasons why folks get banned is private, that is that.

Personally, I miss the Enraged Pomeranian.

Those threads were an absolute hoot as long as you weren't actually trying to seriously discuss something. If you approached a Wild Romanian thread with the same mindset that you would a Sam Kinnison routine, they could be entertaining in an "OMG this is a freakin' trainwreck" sort of way.

Behold, the glory that was Wild Romanian!

One of the major reason I value this forum is that it is not just a one brand
band, there is a wider field of public experience, and there are many
different opinions and a broader subject base as well.

I do go to the brand forums as well and do find them to be quite helpful
on their subjects.

Best, ab

I say with pride and (a little wry smile) that I ain't a flamer, but I know what you mean. I tend to get on a bit of a high horse with whatever guns I'm currently infatuated with, but I've never really been into the hatin' side of things. Some folks (two leap to mind) that have very irregular experiences with generally outstanding guns kind of get on my nerves always talking about their bad experiences with usually excellent guns but then, it is their opinion and hopefully their actual experience rather than just a need to post negative comments on something they've never actually experienced.

Sometimes I wonder though... :scrutiny:
