Are people liking their 9mm 1911's?

I keep looking at ammo prices, and while I can afford a moderately nice 1911 in .45, I'd like to shoot a bunch, but on the 1911 platform... So i'm thinking about going 9, because the cost savings add up pretty fast.

Perhaps eventually getting a 1911 in .45...

Any experience with the S&W 9mm 1911 or the taurus"?

My W has a .22 buckmark, so the real high volume shooting can take place there...

I like my Colt Combat Commander in 9mm.
It makes for cheap shooting with FMJ 9mm loads.
It has the same type of grip, trigger, and safties as my 1911 pattern .45s. And also fits the same holsters as my .45s.

What's not to like?

Love mine

I picked up a used STI Trojan in 9mm .....it now sees more range time than my favorite 1911's[all custom] in .45 and 10mm. The 9mm 1911 is just GREAT to shoot:)

Any experience with the S&W 9mm 1911 or the taurus"?

I have never seen either make in 9mm.
S&W is not even talking about a SW1911 9mm (might be different next week at SHOT) and while Taurus has, they are very slow on delivery.
Do you know a source?

There's no S&W or Taurus 9MM 1911 out yet, though at least Taurus has plans to release one at some point. I wish S&W would, as my .45 1911 from them has been great.

The 2 lowest priced production guns are the Springfield and Kimber. Both are stainless guns, and run in the $800/$900 range. The STI is about $200 or so more than that.

I picked up a used Colt MKIV Series 80 gun a few months ago. So far it's been great. I have had a few issues, but think once I get my new magazines (the Springfield model), I should be OK.

Some people look down at the 9MM 1911, but I think it's a lot of fun to shoot, and cheap as well.

I have tried to get my brother to sell me his a couple times.
Perfect reliability, great accuracy, cheap to shoot, and everyone who picks it up shoots it well.
How could anyone not like them?

My Kimber Tac Pro II 9mm has been a great gun -- super accurate, 100% reliable, and faster shooting than my .45s. Great for range work and, as I don't have reservations about 9mm as a defensive round, good for CCW as well.

how about the semi-1911ish pattern star mod B? cheap, accurate and reliable. single stack and very easy to conceal, and ever quicker to take down than a 1911.

My mistake, I said S&W in 9mm, but I believe I meant springfield. My apologies.

That's the one I'm kind of leaning towards. not that there are too many options, but it just seems like a nice piece, and i can afford to shoot it more...

I have a Kimber Target II. It is one of my favorite range guns...Fun, accurate, and cheap.

I end up shooting my Combat Commander more than I do my 2 Govt Models or Gold Cup. The abbreviated length really balances the pistol more and although it doesn't seem quite as accurate as my others (I'm certain this is in my head), it is certainly easier on the wrist, which always prolongs the shooting pleasure!

I reload for both my 9s and 45s, so ammo price really isn't a concern for me. SC

I love my lightweight Colt Commander 9mm. It balances well, it's reliable, and it's accurate. I did have one after market mag that would cause FTF's, so test your mags carefully. My factory Colt mags have performed flawlessly.

" Does anyone know of a 9mm 1911 that won't set me back a grand?
doubleg "

I believe RIA makes a couple models in 9mm. If you can not find a 9mm you can get the 38 super and send it back to them in Las Vegas and have them fit a 9mm barrel.
