I noticed as I was cleaning my S&W 1911Sc last night that when I picked up my guide my slide stop came along with it. I then tested it on my barrel bushing and the guide rod picked that up as well. Is this done on purpose and if so why?

Assembly tables at Smith and Wesson may have magnetized work surfaces to prevent part loss.
This will slightly magnetize parts that come in contact with those surfaces.

I wouldn't worry about it but you may not want to store the gun near compact discs full of family photos or your favorite computer games.

It won't harm anything. I have seen several competitive holsters that secure the pistol solely by a powerful magnet. That too leaves some magnetic transfer to the firearm. Look at it this way, you drop those fine screws. :neener:
