Here is a pic of a 9MM "Pro" S&W 1911. Anyone have a pic of a standard to compare the extractors?

Which still begs the question, why employ different extractor sizes if there is no meaningful difference in performance?
The difference would only become apparent if you ran the gun hard...most folks would never see the difference.

It would be like the extractor on the 9mm S&W M&P9. They use the same extractor of the M&P40 as the M&P9 and it works for most folks. The extractor was optimized for function with the .40 casing. when folks started running the M&P9 in competition/practice, the problems started to surface. There are a numbers of tweaks they can do, but the correct fix is to replace the extractor with one optimized for the 9mm

I've had mine for 3.5 years now, and close to 10,000 rounds. Never had a single problem with it.

The most I've put through it in one day was 300 rounds.

I've fired it strong hand, weak hand, upside down, and sideways, with and without a magazine inserted. It always ejects and feeds.

It doesn't seem to know that its extractor is supposed to be a problem.

I have a DW Patriot EXP from 2004 with an external extractor. It is a tack driver. Has had thousands of rounds fired with no problems whatsoever. I think SW has perfected the 1911 external extractor. I don't know if DW used their design for the Patriot or not. I don't think DW used the external design for very long. My new DW Valor has the internal extractor.

Last time I checked with them they still use the same single extractor for the .40/.357, 9 & .45 models, and there hadn't been any engineering revisions. The .45 models originally received a roll pin for the extractor instead of the solid pin because of a potential maintenance spec when some military pistol submissions & testing were anticipated. They may (or may not) eventually extend the roll pin idea to the rest of the model line ... maybe.

They did replace some 9mm extractors for a small number of LASD guns, but I didn't ask for specific details other than hearing that an extractor QC issue might have been involved in those guns at that time. The new ones reportedly ran fine in the guns, which were put back into service.

I've also been told that with some improved manufacturing tolerances that it's less likely a factory extractor might require fitting if the need to replace one ever arises. I picked up a .40/.357 extractor bar gauge more than a couple of years ago, just on the off chance I might need one someday. (I have extractor bar gauges for all the 3rd gen gun calibers & the SW1911, so I've wanted whatever was available for the M&P models, too.) However, whenever I've called and asked about a 9mm & .45 bar gauge they've told me they aren't available, or required, as an armorer tool for extractor replacement. (They still list the .40/.357 gauge for the tool kits, though.)

The only route that I know of to address the issue is the optimized 9mm extractor that Apex Tactical is offering for guys who want to run their M&P in competition

S&W doesn't make a "standard" 9mm 1911, only the Pro Series.

Standard gun, doesn't have to be 9MM. Just looking for a comparison with a standard S&W 1911. This one just happens to be 9MM. That poses another question though. Does the Pro 9MM have a different extractor than the Pro .45?
