I've been thinking about buying a Saiga in 7.62X39 to have fun with as a range toy. Untill recently I hadn't been able to find them on the net for under $359, but they seem to be going for $339 most places now. Should I go ahead and buy one, or should I wait a little while and see if they drop any lower? How low do you guys think they could go? My local gun shop has a them for $399, which would make it worth while to buy one online instead.

they were around $330 before Obamania started, so I'd say they are just going back to where they were.

I remember how just under two years ago you could find them for $240. I wish I grabbed an extra, blah blah blah...

Not where I saw them. Classic had them for $250 prior to the election.

Who knows what will happen with prices. Holder, Pelosi or Obama could make some statement tomorrow that would send people into a frenzy again. I don't think they will but one never knows. On the other hand, guns sales could remain slow, the economy could stay sluggish and prices might fall. Or prices might stay stable. Who knows.

Prices on guns and ammo are coming down. They have been for many months and they will continue to drop until the end of 2010, early 2011. The Democrats simply have too much at stake with midterm elections to touch anything as hot button as gun control, abortion, etc. And by early 2011, they're then looking to keep Barry in the white house for 2012. I don't expect to see any sort of push for gun control, if any, till at least 2013.

And for all the talk about the Reid/Pelosi/Obama gun ban fears created by the gun dealers, many people don't realize that this administration/congress might be just as supportive of 2A, if not more, than the last one. We have national park CCW and came only a handful of votes away from national CCW. Consider that for a moment.

Of course, I wouldn't give these people my faith 100%, but for now, they're not doing anything negative yet and I'm OK with that.

I agree with Dark Knight - I don't see gun control popping up as a serious issue until late first term or second term (assuming he wins a second) - if it ever does, but as the hype has died down, gun owners are well stocked and strapped for cash, and manufacturers have been pouring out supply to take advantage of the higher prices, but now we're not going to plateau, but fall back in a way that I hope won't prove to be detrimental to the industry - prices could very well slip beyond pre-election ranges as the market gets flooded with new product and resale from the frenzy of buying.

Hhhm, I might wait another month or to and see if prices drop any more. A local gun shop has 2 saigas in 7.62X39 for $399 that haven't moved for since I saw them there like 3 months ago. If they are still there in a month or so, i might try to talk the price down. Any recommendations on how to haggle the price on a gun that's sat for a few months in a gun shop?

Oh, and if I can't hagle the price down any, and they are still $339 online I'll just order it online.

THE DARK KNIGHT:
Very good points from you guys.

Apparently none of those people who bought in a panic last spring noticed our government's response after a very brief comment by A.G. Eric Holder when he met with a Mexican leader, discussing drug gangs and smuggled guns.

After Holder commented on "..another look at assault rifles" or words to that effect, he was very quickly Silenced/Muzzled, as with the Dog Whisperer.
That seemed to indicate that they could not begin to risk "political capitol" on this (at best) very secondary issue while vast numbers of jobs and homes were being lost.

Lots of the people who bought an 'evil black rifle' last winter on impulse, out of anxiety, probably need their money back soon for Christmas gifts or gasoline. The media interviewed many who bought one just to have it, "cause Obama's gonna make 'em hard to git".

I don't either. In fact, anyone who was remotely attuned to politics didn't expect any gun control in the wake of the election, the votes were never there (they also knew months prior to November that Obama was a shoe in) but that didn't prevent mass panic buying at inflated prices. Non of that was at all rationale. Like I said I don't expect anything to reignite peoples fears but one never knows. It was not a logical response before so I am not sure we can bank on logic now.

I do believe that the panic buying helped saturate the market for EBRs.

everything is going down in price, so buy it now before the next "scare" I bought a bunch of AKs for $350 or so last summer, sold them for $700 or more over the past few months, now they are back to the $350 range.

The $339 price isn't bad. For the last 6 months before the election, .223 and 7.62 were going for $319+. The $250 price point was over a year before the election, and I believe they raised the prices, pre-panic. I don't know that they'll go sub-300 again any time soon.

Hey TexasPatriot.308 you got bunch of AKs for $350? I take it they were probably WASR-10s? Where did you get them from, and were they any good?

Talk about GREAT prices, Gander Mountain had a used one for $799.00.
