I was at the gun store---again. They have a colt 1911, was just wondering if they were any good. All I hear is talk of the springfield and kimber.

I won't be getting one any time soon, but would like to get a 1911 someday.

Thanks,
Jim

BWAAAHAAAAAHAAAAAAHAAAA!! :p

Wait, you are kidding, right?

Just in case you were serious; many people here (who may be chiming in shortly) believe that, "If it's not a Colt, it's just a copy."

I am currently carrying a Kimber Pro Carry. I told my Dad today that it is now his as I am going back to my Colt.

Colt has been around a long long time and has been copied more than any other firearms company on the planet.

A Colt 1911 may not be as good as some out of the box but with a little TLC they are still the standard by which others are measured.

Chipperman, sorry for my ignorance, but yes I am serious. They were colt brand that we had in the military, but that has been a couple years now.

I bought this model back in August of 2003 and it shoots better than I do. Three weeks ago I send it off to Wilson Combat to get customized. Can’t wait to get it back.

i really, really like my colt.

for price, there are so many variations on the 1911 theme that anything's possible for how much (or little)...

is the gun new, used (what kind of shape)...?

The Colts are probably as good as the Springfields and better than the Kimbers.

I have one, the first one I bought was a parked 1991A1 model.
I personally can't hit the side of a barn with it, now that I have other pistols the trigger is comparatively horrible.
But it is very reliable, always goes *bang*.
I used it as my first CCW weapon, but had to ditch it because the finish.

1911's are okay but I'm one of those (with large hands) who would take a CZ full sized any day of the week.

$475 is an awful price.

What a bastard . . . trying to rip people off like that.

What rip off gun shop is this Colt located at?

I have 4 Colt 1911's at the moment, and they are all good guns, except for one of the Commanders, which has a hard time with anything but FMJ's.

You can get a bad one from time to time from Colt, Kimber, or Springfield, and I don't really think there is much difference in their quality.

The Colt might hold its value better... there are lots of Colt fans out there willing to pay for the pony.

Well I own 2 of those POS and for $475 I would take pity on the person and buy another. Because Iam a nice guy. Now I have a question did you mama drop you when your were a baby. :D COLT all the others are copies.

Lone_Gunman..you said..
except for one of the Commanders, which has a hard time with anything but FMJ's.

I had that problem with my Kimber Tac Ultra II, 3.5" ramped barrel. I was at the local range cussin it for not feeding HP's when a guy came up to me and said "get some Wilsom Combat Mags". He handed me one of his, and sure as :cuss: the gun fed every hollow brand they had for sale there.

I bought 3 the next day.

Kimber mags aren't very good. Well, they are just GI mags made by Kimber. 9pretty much identical to Colt) My Pro Carry won't shoot HPs through em. I use Wilsons and they work fine. Every time I have a ftf the first thing I check is the magazine.

I did however just buy a Kimber mag for my Delta Elite because it's all they had and it seems to be made just the factory one but it has a welded on baseplate like the GIs :cuss: . The original DE magazine has a removeable base.

I admit Colt fans are horribly biased...(that would be me).I think if one likes 1911's...one should have a Colt, at least one. Now 475 for a basic orm 1991 in matt blue is good....you should go back right now and get it.You can sell it for more right now if you dont like it.

I just bought a NRM Colt 1991 and it is great buy! Colt's newer rollmarks are nicer than the ORM 1991s and although not the best bang for the buck compared to Springfield, Colts are still number one in my book.. :p

PS- BTW..if anyone wants to sell a bone-stock parked ORM Govt. 1991 for 475.00, I have the cash waiting...because a NRM goes 750.00 now.
