Are there any new rifles made for "old" calibers?

A silly question

But I ask from time to time...

Given the cost of new ammo, if you happened to have some surplus corrosive lying around, would you feel comfortable shooting it through a new barrel like the Remington 700 Classic in 8mm? I wonder how much more accurate the 700 would be than a good condition Yugo m48 or m24. I'm assuming nicer trigger, better stock, etc and no bubbafication of the rifle needed. Any thoughts? I am pretty confident in my ability to clean out the corrosive salts, no problems so far after many many rounds through my Mosin.

I have a Rem Model 700 that I bought new in 1992 in 7mm Mauser.

23 deer & 2 elk dead, butchered, and eaten so far.:D
