Are there fake Leupold CQ/T optics?

I found a decent local deal on a used CQ/T, but I don't want to buy a fake in case the owner has one and does not realize it.

I know there are fake Leupold scopes out there, but has anyone seen or heard of a fake CQ/T ?

If you are familiar with Leupold quality, the difference will be easily noticeable upon removing the reticle adjustment caps. Just take a look under there.

The FLGS saw what they adjudicated to be a fake CQ/T about a month ago. It was very hard to tell from casual examination that it was a fake, and their only real first clue was that the guy trying to sell it (mounted on a gun) bragged on how cheap it was to buy. Had he kept his mouth shut, they likely would never have noticed.

Inspect the optic, and then call Leupold with the serial number on the optic. They'll be able to tell you if it's legit, and also the history of the optic if it is authentic (repairs, etc).
