Are we ready for mold companies to update?

Well, I use gas checks on my 30 cal. cast bullets (30-06, 308, 7.62x54r) and see no reason for mold companies to "declare them outdated/unnecessary". I will continue to use gas checks on my rifle bullets and my 429422s No big deal...

Well rifle yes pistol no.
 
Nope. While I have no problems with plain based cast bullets, some guns with some loads prefer, work much better with gas checked bullets. Depends on several factors. Gun, powder, load, alloy, etc...
 
Are gas checks necessary if using Xtreme hard cast bullets?

Depends on the bullet mould if it's made for a gas check I use a gas check.

If you can get Elmer Keith's book Six cartridges and loads; the book gives great insight to what lead hardness is all about. Even though the book is 86 years old the information is still probably more relevant today with the price of lead and the velocities used.
